Publisher's summary

When the US Supreme Court announced its landmark 6-3 decision to take race out of the equation for college and university admissions, it did more than just bring Affirmative Action in higher education to a screeching halt. It also fired a warning shot across the bow of businesses and governmental agencies across America: the days for workplace diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs that violate the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment have an expiration date. In The Adversity of Diversity, award-winning political scientist Carol M. Swain and collaborator Mike Towle offer an insightful look at DEI’s inception and evolution into a billion-dollar industry. Swain and Towle explain why DEI’s days are numbered, and how we as a people can move beyond divisiveness toward the unity promised by our nation’s motto, e Pluribus unum, “out of many, one.”

Yearning for e pluribus unum

My first awareness of Dr. Carol Swain's astute political insights came from a radio interview she graciously accepted concerning the tragic plagiarism of her scholarly work. As a former college professor of nursing who once taught cross-cultural diversity, this book gives me hope. We need to be bridge builders not island makers.

A wonderful listen. It fills with Hope and Inspiration.

This is a great book and I highly recommend it. Learning about Carol’s journey in chapter two is what really hooked me. I went back to school fall of 2023 after nearly 20 years away. Hearing her story helped my own journey. DEI is contributing to the insanity in our country and needs to be shut down. I think this book is an excellent counter. True Unity will save our country.

Dr Swain is the Voice of Reason and Common Sense

Without being shrill or shoot from the hip reactionary- Dr Swain just makes a GREAT case for how we all can move forward- which is all we can control. Past sins cannot be undone by inflicting them again and again just at different targets. Very constructive arguments and plans of action. Wish she’d run for president!
