Publisher's summary

Nero Wolfe is a fictional detective, created in 1934 by the American mystery writer Rex Stout. Wolfe's confidential assistant Archie Goodwin narrates the cases of the overweight detective genius. In total, Stout wrote 33 novels and 39 short stories from 1934 to 1974, with most of them set in New York City. Wolfe's residence, a luxurious brownstone on West 35th Street, features prominently in the series. Many radio, television and film adaptations were made from Stout's stories. Nero Wolfe first appeared on radio July 5, 1943 in a short-lived NBC series starring Santos Ortega as Wolfe with Luis Van Rooten as Archie. The second series aired during 1945 on the Mutual network starred Francis X. Bushman with Elliott Lewis as Archie. The third, and most successful incarnation came to radio in 1950. It starred Sydney Greenstreet as Wolfe with the part of Archie voiced by several actors including Lawrence Dobkin, Gerald Mohr and Harry Bartell. Nero Wolfe was an armchair detective who rarely left the house. Archie Goodwin, would collect the facts and report back. Wolfe would probably not have taken on many cases had he not needed his client's money to pay for his two true passions: fine food and the collecting of orchids. Enjoy 12 of the finest radio episodes of Nero Wolfe, starring Sydney Greenstreet, who is perhaps best known for playing Kasper Gutman, the villain opposite Humphrey Bogart (Sam Spade) in the film The Maltese Falcon.

Love ❤️ 😍 it all

Love everything that Rex Stout writes about Nero Wolfe. When it comes to mystery novels, I love them all. The narration was superb also.

The Great Sydney Greenstreet as Nero Wolfe

If you have not had the opportunity to hear Sydney Greenstreet and an incredible supporting cast as a Nero Wolf then I recommend you consider buying one of these audio gems. Mr. Greenstreet of course is well known as 1 of the great character actors of all time. Even though his career was short, his impact was large. I hope you enjoy these great stories.

They were good stories but not much about the Orchids, Fritz, or the other characters.

Nero Wolfe NEVER giggled

I’m a huge fan of Rex stouts books, read them all as a teenager, now, 40+ years later I’m going through them from start to finish again. (30 down, 17 to go). The books are great, highly recommended, as are the couple of audible versions.
I gave this 2 stars because the stories were fair to good, and Archie isn’t terrible. Beyond that, the casting is horrendous, with Sidney Greenstreet being by far the worst casting decision. In 46 Rex Stout books, comprising 74 novels and novellas, Nero Wolfe never once even laughed aloud… much less giggled like a 6 year old girl. Mr Greenstreet does it 2 to 3 times per episode. Just ridiculous to listen to if you are a fan of the books.

Embarrassingly bad adaptation.

These radio programs should be avoided by all Nero Wolfe fans. It is just awful in almost everyway. For example, Archie is portrayed as a lecherous boob and Nero Wolfe as a silly, lazy genius who routinely falls a asleep in his chair. Greenstreet's voice makes him sound creepy as well. Disgusting. I would go on but I have already wasted enough time on these horrible performances. The Further Adventures of Sherlock Holmes are a much better example of new material that stays faithful to the original stories. I consider this collection the biggest waste of money I have ever made on Audible. After the first episode I tried to return it. but either I don't know how to do that or you cannot return item.
