Publisher's summary

Refusing to be civilized by Southern society or cowed by his drunken father's lashings, young Huckleberry Finn decides he has only one option left: fake his own death and hop a raft down the Mississippi River. Instead of carrying him far from trouble, though, Huck's raft delivers him to a place of moral uncertainty.

Mark Twain unwinds Huck's harrowing journey to manhood with satirical wit, revealing the troubled history of the American South, where slavery held sway long after the Civil War ended. Huck's relationship with runaway slave Jim forces him to confront his beliefs about friendship and freedom.

I used this to compliment my reading of the same work...

We participate in a ‘Great Books’ reading group, and our upcoming work is to be “Huckleberry Finn”.

This audible book is very well read, and it complimented my reading in preparation for our upcoming meeting - much better than the watching 3 of the 5 movies made with this same title.

In my estimation, anyone would enjoy listening to this work.

Masterful reading.

There are many readings available for this book, and I'm overjoyed I picked this one. Each character and each line was presented so well, calling it a reading doesn't do it justice.

A classic by a legend

This is a classic that my dad tried for years to get me to read. I just couldn't seem to get into it in the written form. I guess it was just a story that I needed to hear told to me by someone else. It turned out to be great, but I preferred the Audible selection narrated by Elijah Wood. If you haven't read it, it's a classic must read, no matter who reads it.

Really enjoyed the narrator.

The narrator was excellent. My son and I enjoyed the story line. The language opened the door to teach him valuable lessons.

Good but not as good as Tom Sawyer

I might have liked this book more if I had read and listened to this before Tom Sawyer. But I liked Tom Sawyer more than this book.

The narrator was excellent.

great story

Well by and by allls well that ends well. Probably one of Mark Twain's two greatest achievements Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer . I remember reading these in high school but I don't know if I enjoyed them as much as I did this time.
You really need to accept the day and age these stories were written. Cause if you don't you will just cause yourself all sorts of grief trying to get these books banned and all sorts of shit.
Just enjoy it for what it is.

American Classic, dated language may offend.

Surely one of the best American novels of the 19th century and on the short list of great American writing of any time. Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) was a renown humorist and writer of his time. And to be sure, this is a novel of its time and place (pre-civil war south). The language and vernacular are critical to the story and may offend some. But this must be read as a satirical story, critical of slavery and other human ills of that period. Clemens' humor and his characters are the heart of his writing. If you haven't read it, you're surely missing a chunk of Americana.
