Publisher's summary

Love is the adventure no one sees coming.

Joey Moore got her heart stomped on. At her engagement party. So, she did what any normal, completely rational 28-year-old would do - she moved to a new city with her dog to start a new life. Without much of a plan, it turns out.

Kendall O’Hara doesn’t enjoy chaos - at 42-years-old, she has a stable job and two cats she likes more than most people. Okay, all people, except her close-knit group of friends. She’s not boring. She’s just protecting her still-healing heart decades after a devastating loss.

When Joey and Kendall’s paths cross, a rocky start with an accidental laundry switch turns into an unlikely friendship. From there, the two friends make a pact to get out of their comfort zones, one piece of paper drawn from an “Adventure Jar” at a time. A growing mutual attraction leads them on an adventure that neither one might have expected....

Good story bad narrator

The story itself is really nice and won recently a Goldie . But sadly the narrator is not fitting . It should be a more serious voice reading this book.

A good for a drive book

When you drive out of town and you need a good book without too much drama or too hot sex this is the book. And AJ Ferraro narrates it well.

Light and fun

I applaud this book, violence may not be the answer but goddamn it feels darn friggin good. Brava Sunny brava.

Ok so cheering aside, I really liked this book because it was so light and fun. I don't really have anything deep to say about this book because I never got the feeling like there was any need to beyond the surface of the book, it's kind of like you get what you read. Overall just a nice fun read.

This is my first book narrated by AJ Ferraro, I'm always happy and applaud a narrator when they're willing to try and create different voices for different characters. AJ Ferraro is no different. My only complaint with her narration is that sometimes her voices kind of sound the same and I lose track of who's talking. Brava AJ Ferraro you definitely surprised me.

Overall: If you want something light and fun that you can finish in a day, I recommend this book.

Full of adventures...and pets!

Though the book begins with a disastrous engagement, the reader doesn't have to wait long for the Joey's love interest to appear. The wait is even shorter for Joey's first adventure. What you will have to wait for, of course, is for either of them to admit to having feelings!

In the mean time, Joey and Kendall experience adventures that they choose, as well as navigate through changes in their lives. They care for their pets (a dog, 2 cats, and 2 newborn kittens), and they spend time with family and friends. This story seems to have a bit of everything to enjoy, and all well balanced, as these two very different women become friends (and more?).

This is the first novel that I've read by Bryce Oakley, and I'm looking forward to reading more of her work!

I enjoyed listening to AJ Ferraro's narration, as well. It was very enjoyable to listen to!

Delightful!

I really enjoyed this book. The characters were fleshed out well and I was rooting for them from the start. It was sweet and funny and the narration was great! I highly recommend this audiobook!

Nice Romance

Age diff romance slow development but nice pleasing story. The narration was fine but it did take a few chapters before I got used to the voice.

This is worth the credit. I may even revisit this book again in the future.

Not bad

This was actually a pretty good book with a sense humor between the 2 main characters! AJ Ferraro wasn’t bad, but she is boring at times. I had to push thru once in a while. She lacks bringing the story to life. This was deserved to have Lori Prince as the narrator!!! But, still overall not bad.

Seriously Adorable

I went into this knowing that I liked Oakley’s writing. I hoped that this one was going to be as cute and authentic feeling as the other book I’ve read by her (Undone). Spoiler alert – it was and then some. I also like that she sprinkled in a bit about The Shrikes (which is the band that is at the center of a couple of her other books).

The Adventurers is a book about finding love when you didn’t expect it. It’s about finally breaking out of your shell and doing things that you’re scared of. It’s about trying to find someone to go on that adventure with you… among lots of other things. Oakley seems to get that even though the two women in the story are different ages and potentially at different stages in life – we all want to feel like we’ve made something of our life. And Joey and Kendall definitely realize this and realize that they bring out the best in each other.

This story was seriously cute and had me smiling and laughing throughout. There were lots of scenes where they were making jokes at each other that were just so darn cute my cheeks hurt while listening to this. (One of the running jokes was the continuous “laundry thief” nickname since that was how their stories started to become entwined).

The narration by AJ Ferraro was great – I thought she really encompassed both women and did a great job voicing them and their emotions. A book I would definitely recommend, especially if you need to smile or laugh in these trying times. Honestly, my only complaint about this has nothing to do with the book. It’s that more of Oakley’s books aren’t available on audio (yet?).

Weak writing, lacks depth

It was so modern with its references that I rolled my eyes. Her other book was better in my opinion. The narration was painful. Sometimes it sounded ditsy.
