This method led Spurgeon to interpret texts in a consistent fashion, resulting in sermons, articles, and instruction that employed cross-centered language, which was aimed at the conversion of unbelievers.

With Breimaier as our guide, better understanding how Spurgeon approached the task of interpreting Scripture and preaching the gospel might enable us, too, to be tethered to the cross of Christ.

Excellent Study on Spurgeon

This is an excellent historical/theological study of Spurgeon’s two main preaching and ministry emphases. Again and again, the author reveals how these overarching themes are manifested in Spurgeon’s treatment of various scripture genres in his preaching. Made me want to reflect on my commitment to the cross and evangelism in my own preaching.

Spurgeon Criticized

This book felt much more like a critique of a great pastor as opposed to a neutral overview of a man God used to further the Kingdom.

As great of a man and preacher Sturgeon was, it didn’t translate well into his biography
