For Dr. David Beck, the loss was shattering. And every day for the past eight years, he has relived the horror of what happened. The gleaming lake. The pale moonlight. The piercing screams. The night his wife was taken. The last night he saw her alive.

Everyone tells him it's time to move on, to forget the past once and for all. But for David Beck, there can be no closure. A message has appeared on his computer, a phrase only he and his dead wife know. Suddenly Beck is taunted with the impossible—that somewhere, somehow, Elizabeth is alive.

Beck has been warned to tell no one. And he doesn't. Instead, he runs from the people he trusts the most, plunging headlong into a search for the shadowy figure whose messages hold out a desperate hope.

But already Beck is being hunted down. He's headed straight into the heart of a dark and deadly secret—and someone intends to stop him before he gets there.©2001 Harlan Coben; (P)2001 Random House, Inc., Bantam Doubleday Dell Audio, a Division of Random House, Inc.

Right from the start this book keeps your attention and keeps you engaged the whole time. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that it is so quick you don't really feel like you get to know all the characters, but this was an excellent listen!

Excellent!!

Typically I love Harlan Coben but I found this one a little boring but worse than that is that I didn’t like any of the characters.

This was my 1st book by Harlan Coben that I've listened to. The narrator did a great job and I was Convinced the it was him in the story. this only thing I didn't like is that this story is so short! I wanted more! I definitely recommend it though.

My 1st Harlan Coben book And it was great!

I really enjoyed this book because it was filled with many twists and turns from the beginning all the way till the unexpected ending. Besides the unpredictability of this story, another thing that made this title enjoyable to me was that the computer activities, like the use of email were actually feasible. This was my first title by this author and I found it to be difficult to put down until I had finished it.

Good Mystery

I enjoyed it. Got a few chuckles between the dialogue of Beck and Tyrese. The more twists the better I always say. I want to work to figure it out.
Just wish it was longer 🙃

Twists & Turns a plenty

I thought it was a good book overall; I never saw that ending comming. I would have given this book a 5, but at the end he says "I bet you wonder what happened to X Y Z characters - Well, I'm not going to tell you, the story ends here" then he continues with the ending of one plot-line. I thought that was just a sorry way to end a story after making you like these other characters. Still, the book is a good read.

Like the book, -- odd ending
