Publisher's summary

The Chronicles of William Wilde continues!

William survived Sinskrill, but he’s unable and unwilling to forget what he suffered there. Some hardships endure. And despite his wonderful, new life on the lush paradise of Arylyn, nightmares continue to haunt him.

But closure will only come if he finds a means to reconcile himself to that terrible chapter of his life. Only then can he save his loved ones who remain on Sinskrill: the wise troll, Travail, and William’s teacher and one-time tormentor, Fiona. Both remain trapped under the boot-heel of the Servitor, Sinskrill’s terrifying ruler.

William has promised to return and free them, and while he’s gained powerful allies, such as Rukh and Jessira, to aid in his quest, saving Travail and Fiona will only happen when he masters his own magic and summons his own courage.

But will courage alone be enough against the Servitor’s terrible power?

now we're getting somewhere lol

there's been action in the other two books prior to this one but this one was a little more intense I think. I read a few reviews of people complaining about Serena getting a pity party and one person relating it to somebody being raped. My issue with that is the rapist isn't being forced to rape somebody like Serena was being forced to do the things she was doing for fear of her sister being harmed! it definitely doesn't excuse her cruelty and perhaps she could have figured out something else but she grew up in this environment and so the fact that she even tried to do anything differently should speak volumes. The only real issue that I had is that at one point she basically acts like she doesn't really care that she did what she did when she tells them oh boo hoo thinking about how she had it far worse or others have. I'm pretty certain it's easy to pass judgment on somebody when it's not you or your loved one who's in danger but try to truthfully say you wouldn't do what you could to keep someone you loved dearly from being harmed!

Training for the rescue

William and Jake have been rescued from Sinscril, but they are now residents of Eralin. While the island is a lace of wonder and beauty, they know that they left their only allies on Sinscril. They need to train hard to be strong enough to rescue them.

I would not call this a filler book, but the majority of this book is a training montage. The relationship between William and Serena goes through different phases as well. I am happy with this book and looking forward to the next!

Love this series so far

I don’t want the story to end it’s so rich. I love the differences between all the characters and how they’ve all come together. I know I’m getting close to the end of the story but I kind of wish it didn’t come anywhere near to ending and went on for like 15 books hahaha once im finished with this one I’ll definitely look into the authors other series

Good Story

I really like Nick Podehl as a narrator and that was why I got the first book. But I keep getting them because it’s a good story and I need to see the outcome.

Simply enjoyable.

This is such a great story. The world building is fantastic and I can’t wait to listen to the 4th book in this series. Nick Podehl brings this story to life.

William has built a group of friends into a family

Even Serena has been forgiven for kidnapping William and Jake. But William and Jake train hard to be able to rescue Fionna and the troll that had helped them escape.

Training for better ability and control of their ability to weave braids of magic to the levels necessary to have a chance of success takes high concentration and repetition plus convincing the leaders that the risk is necessary.

This book further develops our key characters while introducing others. Yet as the plot develops and actions become critical, there is the gnawing glimmer of something bigger to come that is beyond this book. Although this book fills the transition well, it makes the sequel even more desirable so that the final battle can resolve the centuries of competition between the two hidden world's.

Since the return of the otherworldly god is iminent, and he has threatened (promised?) to destroy our heroes, all readers should prepare for Lord S*hit to hit the fan and be spread everywhere. (This series of books should be required reading for all kids who like to talk about it as they can claim they were just reading the name from the book.)

Also, this series is great at twisting enemies into friends and having good people do bad things to bad people who were doing bad things to good people. It is one of the few places where trolls are good, but there is only one left in the world, so that is bad.

I enjoyed the story but thought it was slow.

Wasn't a whole lot happening in this story. There's a 2 year time skip to get Jake and William trained up for the big battle. The battle was enjoyable with the predicted outcome and death scare. I thought it would be either Mr. Zeus or Fiona. Nick performance was excellent, but I think he made Jake's voice too whining. I'm giving this book a 5 overall, not perfect, but it's good.

Can’t get enough!!

I don’t normally like books that are written in current centuries, but this one was really amazing and I absolutely will add it to my top 10 series I’m going to re-read the series to find the little Easter eggs that may be hidden now that I know how the story ends
