Publisher's Summary

Her first year away is turning out to be nearly perfect, but one weekend of giving in to heated passion will change everything.

Eighteen-year-old Harper has grown up under the thumb of her career marine father. Ready to live life her own way and to experience things she's only ever heard of from the jarheads in her father's unit, she's on her way to college at San Diego State University.

Thanks to her new roommate, Harper is introduced to a world of parties, gorgeous guys, family, and emotions. She finds herself being torn in two as she quickly falls in love with both her new boyfriend, Brandon, and her roommate's brother, Chase. Despite their dangerous looks and histories, both men adore Harper and would do anything for her, including taking a step back if it would mean she'd be happy.

Disappointed

This story dripped with cheese. I just felt like there were way too many times when I rolled my eyes at the character/author. It was incredibly predictable, with one major exception. I couldn't seem to wrap my brain around the desire every man had to be with Harper. I just wasn't convinced she was the bees knees. I read through about 60% and then skimmed the rest. It just wasn't worth my time, and since it was an audio book, it was a lot more time. Disappointed .

what words...

absolutely LOVED the first 60% of this book. SO SO SO good till the climax & then it just kind of went MEH...STILL GOOD but lost it's 5th star. After the climax it just got a little slow and there were some things that really annoyed me that I can't say without giving anything away.
I loved Brandon, LOVED Chase! I wanted to smack Harper several times throughout the book.
I laughed, bawled my eyes out, got a little bored but ultimately loved this book

SO frustrating and disappointing

I found this book to be terrible. I initially enjoyed the story and got quite into it. however I fairly quickly got annoyed with the protagonist Harper. I couldn't figure out why everyone was so nuts about her. I found there to be so much extra scenes and information that didn't add to the overall story. The time jumps could be jarring and make me go wtf. I found so much of the story cheesy and totally unrealistic. I rolled my eyes a lot and am haven't been able to finish the last quarter of the book as it's just too ridiculous. The narrator is great though.

Not as bad as some people made it out to be!

Yes, a lot of the storyline was predictable, but I still enjoyed the ride. I was engaged enough to laugh and cry with the characters appropriately. Remember , it's a fictional story so you are allowed to stretch your boundaries of belief with what some people are willing to do for others. It's called using your imagination! It's also what makes books in general such a pleasure to read. It makes you think about something differently and maybe open you up to a new perspective on how to approach a situation.

Fantastic book!

Wow, what a fantastic book! I just finished reading this over a 2 day time period. I had to stop because I was crying so much! This book is so loving and touching. It is filled with so much raw emotions too. The narrator is freaking fantastic to top it off! I fell like I just finished a movie, it was that good!

This book is about a young woman (Harper) who was raised by a bunch of marines as she sets off for college. There she meets two great guys (Brandon and Chase) and falls in love with both of them. What is a girl to do? It turns out, the two guys are friends too. Read along as Harper is romanced by both Brandon and Chase and not in the way it sounds. Make sure you have a BIG box of tissues! Every girl needs to be loved and cherished like this!

The author, Molly McAdams did a fantastic job writing this book. The plot is great. The suspense and love is amazing! I can only imagine the author crying as she wrote this book too. The narrator, Anadelle Waters is just freaking awesome in her delivery of this story! All the voices and accents AND emotions she delivers as she reads this story to us. It felt so real!!! All I can say is thank you for such a great read!

Worst heroine ever

I love this author but was not a fan of this book at all. Harper spent the whole book making horribly selfish decisions, she went around calling Brandon "the love of her life" and then cheated on him and kept going back and forth between them. It's literally a whole story of a selfish, immature, shallow girl who wants her cakes and eats it too.

Love Hate this book

I’m so torn. I’m a huge fan of McAdams. She’s the best. Her books I’ve read/listened to so far (Brewed and Thatch Series) have been heartfelt, sad at times, well developed characters and great stories. They are frustrating at times bc they have interesting edge of your seat plots. But they always have had good endings. This book ended bittersweetly- I would have absolutely 100% preferred a different ending!!!! SPOILER past this point. I was team Chase from the beginning and I’m so so soooooo saddened and quite upset actually about the twist 60% of the way through the book! Yes I know it’s fiction but when a book is good, you really become invested in the characters and I feel sick to my stomach about what happened to him. He was robbed!!! They were robbed!!! Wish the outcome was different. It was hard to stomach!

Take a chance.

So, bare with me on this one. I got the paperback book for book 1, Taking Chances, months ago and I had 1 Audiobook credit to give it a shot. Fresh from the boat and going to college...things get ugly. Yes, I did many times rolled my eyes at the characters and yet, I want more??? I am such an young soap opera fool...It’s unbelievable and incredible & far fence Storyline but hell, I love it. That’s what books can be, too! It’s a love “fiction”....FICTION Contemporary YA romance So, You can love this book or hate it but it never fails, people talking about it. Like for example, Twilight. Anyways, I am a late bloomer to get into this book but happy I did. I do not regret it at all!

The story kept me on my toes, keep me up for hours of the night. There was a lot of angst and growing up, discovering themselves type of moments. If I have to describe this book with one word, it is “Acceptance”. So, yes, this is an emotional rollercoaster kind of book. Can you handle it? A tear jerker and always gathering strength to read on and finish. I like twists and turns the author presented with the main characters: brandon, chase and Harper and the side characters: Bree, Konrad, & family, friends. I will continue to read on this series and now, all the author’s books. You just have to “take a chance” on this one! (Drop mic)

Serious book hangover today!

I wasn't sure about this book to start with. By to start with, I mean maybe the first half hour. After that, I was absolutely hooked, and all I wanted to do was carry on listening. I ended up enjoying the book so much that I'm reluctant to start anything else until I've gotten over the story being finished! Molly McAdams has once again managed to pull me in, beat me up emotionally and left me wanting more! I want more Harper and more Brandon and even more Chase! Sigh...

Wasn't expecting all of that!!

Wow....what a story and I wasn't expecting a lot of what went on in this!

Obviously we know there is a love triangle, the cover is a dead giveaway, going from over protected to being free, I myself was torn between the two guys, I wanted her to be with one, then the other, so it was no surprise that she was conflicted. I would have rather she had both especially rather than what happened.

I was bawling through this, crying my freaking eyes out while someone is reading to me, I guess at least i didn't have to hold a book while i wiped my eyes. I broke.... really broke. I loved that the author did this, may sound strange, but I love to be made to cry and feel and this did that at that point.

Her Dad, jeez rocket and his ass sprung to mind. But she found her family, her mother figure and that warmed my heart.

A little longwinded in parts, but that is my opinion and may be different if i had read it as i read faster.

Can't wait to read / listen to more from Molly....

not for me

Did not finish (rather skipped whole chapters to the end). Can't fathom why so many positive reviews. Story had potential but writing was very petty and immature. Heroine was whiny and didn't deserve the pedestal she was placed upon.

Save your money.
