Publisher's summary

In Arcadia, winter has no heart.

I make magic dresses for a living. I'm not rich or pretty enough to wear them, but I love what I do, working out of my family's shop on Carnaby Street in London - until the fae show up.

It's a straight-up kidnapping, and before I know it, I'm brought to this wintry place of cold hearts and beautiful nightmares, but that's not the worst part.

The worst part is, they think I'm fae, and I'm supposed to participate in some competition against a host of other women who have been training their whole lives for this. The prize? The winner is to marry the prince.

On the surface that sounds almost like a fairy tale, only this competition is brutal and bloody, and the prince is the jerk who kidnapped me. I can't get too close to him or he'll know I'm not fae, and then I'm dead. But I want to get close to him. His body burns with the fire of a cold star, and I'm drawn to him.

I need to fight the pull and survive long enough to find a way out of here, but these winter fae won't make that easy.

Contains mature themes.

Pretty Good

This book was very good, the vivid detail of this fairy land was wonderful. The characters are developing very nicely. I like the MCs and the supporting characters. I cannot wait to listen to the other books.

The story

I am always excited for a Kat book. The stories have come so far from Amber Lee. This one was just as exciting to me and I'm eager to learn where our FMC ends up in Arcadia and her journey to find out who she is.

Good fantasy

It's got the makings of a really great love story but it's definitely a slow build. Luckily the books are rather short. It will take at least a couple more before I can really decide.

Great Narration & Interesting Story So Far

If you enjoy a story with some mystery, a slow-burn romance, and a female lead that grows in strength - this is a great one.

Great story and narration

The narration is great, and the story is such a good mix of mystery and adventure. In some ways it reminded me of The Selection but with magic.

Quite the Surprise...Ends in Cliffhanger

No steam, no smut, just a traditional fae story about the royal selection. However, despite the lack of the steam, the action and storytelling is on point. Could be better with a little cheek clapping but meh. Dahlia is a human dressmaker who lives with mages. She has a pixie as a best friend that no one knows about, and she doesn't know who her parents are. She lives with 3 mages who all are mother figures in her life. As she goes to drop off a dress to a non-paying magical client, she runs into a fae prince. Who later kidnaps her to have her participate in a Queen trial. It is during this trial that she tries to cover up that she is human as they are considered dirty, stupid and despised in their realm. But from the looks of it...she's half fae..half human. As always, in any magical shifter story, the prince is hot and cold when he wants to be, cryptic when he wants to be, and the mean girls are just that, mean. However, just when the story finally picks up and gets good...wham cliffhanger and you gotta buy book two and three. *insert eyeroll* I recommend this read as the main character Dahlia is not a whiny annoying brat but a levelheaded, sometimes confused but smart enough to not do stupid things, lovable character. Dahlia for the win!
