Publisher's summary

Professional and ambitious to a fault, Cora O'Malley has no time for the fascinating mystery author, Trent Rogers, she chances to meet in the airport—even if he is easy on the eyes. But when she returns from an extremely successful business trip only to find herself fired with an explanation that makes no sense, Cora decides to hire Trent to find out the real story.

Trent keeps it to himself that writing mysteries and conducting actual investigations are two very different things. The assignment is the perfect excuse to get to know Cora better, especially now that she has the time for romance.

But Cora also has a wild-child past that Trent never would have expected of the buttoned-up businesswoman he first met. Part of her past is Dougie, her childhood best friend whose casual familiarity with Cora sets Trent's teeth on edge.

Suddenly, relationship-challenged Cora has to decide whether she wants to fan flames from a comfortable old spark, or take a chance on a new love.

Full of sweet and sassy banter, Take a Chance is a fun, positive story sure to make you smile.

This "closed-door" romantic comedy has plenty of humor and romantic chemistry, but there are no graphic sex scenes on the page. There is some limited adult language and suggestive humor.

book 1 - Chanceville Chronicles

This is book 1 in Ross' Chanceville Chronicles and a good intro to a new series. This book features main characters Cora O'Malley and Trent Rogers. Mutual friends have been trying to set these two up for a while now but Cora is career driven and doesn't find she wants to make the time for dating - she's happy with her life as it is. Trent is a mystery author and has found some local recognition and popularity and is open to the idea. He coincidentally meets Cora at an airport and interacts with her and well, the rest of the book is a series of mis communications until they both can figure out what they want for themselves and from each other. Love the secondary characters and some of the miscommunications lead to cringy and sometimes funny situations. Overall a well written romance with a few laughs - very clean and sweet - just some kissing and vague hints of more from different characters. Look forward to seeing what may be next in this series! Great narration although I think it would have benefited from dual narration.

Small town romance

This had a cute premise, and potential but I didn’t connect with Cora she’s a bit oblivious.

Cora and Trent

Cora is working hard on a last minute project with a short deadline (tomorrow morning!) at the airport, while waiting for her delayed flight. Trent, a mystery writer, approaches her at the airport. Upon returning to work following a successful presentation, she is fired! Cora convinces Trent to investigate, why was she actually let go. The chemistry and frequent interactions, blooms a romance between Cora and Trent. This is a sweet, feel-good story. There is romance and humor, but not steamy scenes. I enjoyed the story, and liked the characters. I was not a fan of the narration. She did a good enough job; however the delivery was pretty choppy instead of flowing like regular speech. I found this very distracting, and hard to remain focused on the story.

Charming!

Cora O'Malley is anxiously awaiting her flight to Chicago to a most important meeting. Trent Rogers is a published author with writer's block. He and Cora get to talking and realize that they have a lot in common. Trent notices that Cora has a tight focus on life, concentrating mostly on work. He asks her for help with his writer's block, by looking around herself to see life as it is. By now, it's pretty clear to the reader that Cora is averse to relationships, for a good reason, and Trent simply hasn't taken time for one. After their meeting do they keep in touch? It's a very nice story with well-written and captivating characters. I really wanted to shake both Cora and Trent with their clueless attempt at a relationship. Neither had any common sense and didn't know the first thing about what is "expected" between girl/boyfriends. That's when siblings and friends step in to give them a shove in the right direction.
The narration is beautifully done by Lexi Balter. She was able to show the excitement of new love and of family and friends with her dynamic and well-modulated voice.

Juvenile

Not much of a story. And the narrators was pretty bad. Like they were reading and paused at the end of a line instead the end of a sentence. The story made me think a 15 year old wrote a story about what they thought a 30 year old would think and feel. Just not a great book.
