Just amazing!

I really enjoyed this book, it was everything I hoped it would be. There were quite a few times where I thought John was so Screwed. I loved the relationship between him and Sky. The action was pretty epic. The narrator did a great job at reading this book. I want to know what happens next.

The Firm

A fantastic read. This is a fast paced and action packed read. Sicarius is a hired assasin who specializes in what he does. This grabbed me from the first page to the last, and had me on the edge of my seat. This is an epic read, if you like action packed reads this is definitely the read for you. The Narrator does a Fantastic job at bringing the characters out.

Everyone Needs a Friendly Neighborhood Sicarius

Though this isn't my typical genre, I knew I had to give this story a listen as soon as I read the description. I'm very glad that I did.

Sicarius is an intriguing character; one that was very easy to imagine, based on the mental and physical choices he makes throughout the story. Though he's a clear badass figure and amazing at what he does, I still found myself rooting for his personal well-being many times, as I was fearful for every new situation he found himself in (especially after the governor's death, when everything starts spiraling out of control.)

It was great getting insight into the characters' motivations, and made the story more authentic. I thought the writing, and the narration, helped bring this story to life in a compelling way. The short, punchy action scenes drove home the urgency of the dynamic situations, and I think you will enjoy the ending as much as I did.

Great, fast-paced edge-of-your-seat story

This story moved at the speed of light! It is so easy to power through. Isaiah Lee has a crisp writing style. He doesn’t waste words, but also does a great job setting the scene and creating the characters. I’d read another one of his books in a flash! And then there was the narration. Spot on! I read a review by someone who didn’t like the way Todd Waites voices the women. I had ABSOLUTELY no issue with any of the narration. It fit the book to a T.

a decent story but predictable ending

The storyline and the narration were good. however, the romantic aspect of the story was very predictable and unrealistic. however the ending does allude to a second book and I wouldn't be against reading that.

Started good...then went down

I really enjoyed the first part of the book and it had great potential, until it turned into a romance novel. I don't like romance novels. I would have enjoyed more "meat" on the story, more descriptions of events and places. Nevertheless it was an enjoyable story .

Good start but I didn't enjoy the middle

I thought that this book had an interesting focal point in its main character - code name Sica, short for Sicarius, a top assassin in name as well as ability. And yet for an assassin, Sica, whose real name is John, achieves paltry number of kills by the end of THE F.I.R.M., so his birth name seems a whole lot more appropriate.

The love story was a bit too mushy for my liking as well as being wholly predictable, lacking the twists, turns and unexpected corkscrew turns that are the hallmarks of a good book with a romantic twist. At the end of the day, the genres lacked balance and what starts as action swiftly devolves into mushy romance.

Altogether an average story with a good narration.

The world is full of a**h*les who need to die.

John Gaines is an assassin. He'd been trained for it since he was 12 by his foster father, Quincy. Now, at 28, he'd been working successfully for eleven years, always getting done what had to be done. His latest assignment, client unknown, was the assassination in public of the Governor of New York, Tom Patton, followed by the death of a strip club proprietor, any place, any time. What John hadn't been expecting was to reopen old feuds - and fall in love.

The stories within this main story arc are straightforward and simplistic, easy to follow and quick to read. Characterisation is basic, reliant on flashback remembrances to give solidity and motive to the main protagonists and neither John or Sky every become fully three dimensional living beings. (despite the occasional emotional flicker). Even the narration by Todd Waites , with personalized voices for each protagonist, failed to bring them to live although his well intoned reading made the listening a pleasure.

Even though it is flawed, The F.I.R.M. is good basic read for those who enjoy stories from the assassin's point of view. And the ending, though the book is complete in itself, leaves a clear opening for the second in a series.
