Publisher's Summary

Released from the magic pokey and paroled with limited power is enough to make any witch grumpy. However, if you throw in a recently resurrected cat, a lime-green Kia, and a sexy egotistical werewolf, it's enough to make a gal fly off the edge. Not to mention a mission...with no freaking directions. So here I sit in Asscrack, West Virginia, trying to figure out how to complete my mysterious mission before All Hallows Eve when I'll get turned into a mortal. The animals in the area are convinced I'm the Shifter Whisperer (whatever the hell that is) and the hotter-than- asphalt-in-August werewolf thinks I'm his mate. Now apparently, I'm slated to save a bunch of hairy freaks of nature? If they think I'm the right witch for the job, they've swallowed some bad brew.

Awesome Story and Performance!

When a girl needs a good laugh, all she has to do is open one of Robyn Peterman's books (or in our case, push play),and prepare for a story that will literally bring tears to your eyes and make you laugh your a** off! Robyn's paranormal series are some of the funniest stories I've listened.

I had a blast listening to Switching Hour and Stephanie Riggio's performance was superb. She really brought the story to life, and did an amazing job delivering all the different character's snarky and sassy comments. She portrayed Zelda perfectly, and I loved her voice for Fabio the cat.

If you listened to Robyn's other PNR series "Hot Damned," then you will definitely want to add this story to your collection. While the story is on the short side, it is perfect whispersync deal. It was well worth my time!

Seriously funny!

Caution: this story might make you pee yourself! Between the name calling and the old lady crouch smoke, I may have hurt myself laughing. Seriously, if you are looking for smoking hot sex, frustrating witches, and a roadkill sidekick, look no further!

This is funny?

I'm returning this one even though I got it on sale. I'm surprised at all the glowing reviews! I was hoping for some chuckles since this is billed as funny, but I never really even smiled.

Honestly this was a whole lot of crassness, bad language, and instant lust smashed into a small space. There was a clash between good and evil cute fluffy animals crammed in there as well. It was an awkward fit and never really meshed well.

As for the humor, there's a joke about the cat grooming its private parts which is used over and over and OVER. The main character is totally shallow and materialistic, and spends a lot of time judging people and situations by their possessions. Sometimes that can work, but in this case she just seemed dislikeable instead of funny.

That was probably my biggest problem with the book -- I can handle all sorts of crudeness and (failed) lewd jokes, but only if there's a main character worth bonding with. And that's even harder given the short length of this story. A lot of people seem to have rated this fairly well though, so take my opinions with a grain of salt. There's room for the MC to grow in later installments, but I was just sorry to be spending my listening time with her.

No problems with the narrator at all -- the sample is a good representation of her reading so you know what you'll be getting there.

Not my cup of tea

Thank God this was such a short book. I am amazed that I'm in the minority here; I'm one of the readers who disliked this book. First of all, I disliked the main character. She was so shallow and immature. She cursed like a middle schooler trying out cuss words for the first time. Example: "Fucking fuckity fuck fuck" Seriously? The author tried way too hard to be funny and it came off as ridiculous. The cat (the main character's familiar) spent an inordinate amount of time licking his dangly bits. The author found it necessary to include repetitive gonad licking incidents throughout the book. The entire book wasn't horrible. Something, that I couldn't put my finger on, kept me interested. I had a love/hate thing going on with the narrator. It was read by Stephanie Riggio. I enjoyed her regular speaking voice, but when she switched into other characters/talking animals, it was like fingernails on a chalkboard. She spoke in this breathy voice that was overdone.

Not really worth a credit

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I loved Robyn Peterman's "Hot Damned" series, but the first book in this series seems like a weak copycat (even though it was released first). I know Glenda, the main character, is kinda finding herself, but she is rather unlikable and 1 dimensional. Actually, most of the characters were pretty uninteresting, except for her cat.All the books in this series are only 4 or 5 hours long; that is why I don't think I will be spending anymore credits on them. Maybe if they were combined in an anthology I would buy it.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Predictable.

What three words best describe Stephanie Riggio’s voice?

Uninteresting, uninvolved, pleasant.

Do you think Switching Hour: Magic and Mayhem Book One needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

There are 3 more in the series, don't think I will bother with them

Any additional comments?

There are better books / series to use your credits on,

Major Flaw in Otherwise Cute Novel

This would be a charming if lightweight novel were it not for the author's excessive use of profanity and the main character's constant negativity in her interactions with other characters. I'm not shocked at her language--I spoke much like the protagonist when I was in college until I was thankfully told by a boyfriend that it decreased my attractiveness. But it is time for the author and her character to grow out of this trait.

A humorous paranormal read...

A totally humorous paranormal read. I laughed and laughed while listening / reading this book. A young woman (Zelda) is tossed into the role of healer witch after her Aunt Hildie dies, whom she didn't even know. Now Zelda is surrounded by talking animal shifters of all species while she tries to discover who killed her aunt.

This story will make you laugh until you cry. This is my first read by author, Robyn Peterman, as I have been waiting for her books to come out in audio books. This author has a HUGE sense of humor and wise cracks to boot. The narrator, Stephanie Riggio did an awesome job with this story. She used many different voices for each animal and all the voices seemed to fit each character in my opinion. The narration is flawless and very entertaining! Wtg ladies!

Laugh your chores away!

comedy, witches, urban-fantasy, paranormal, magic, snark-fest

Hilariously silly with an abundance of verbal humor and a gift for description! The publisher's blurb gives hints and there is no need for spoilers, but that can't begin to prepare you for all the laughs! Great book for a bad day at work!
Stephanie Reggio has the patter and snark down pat.
Bought as Whispersync on the cheap.

Lewd, crude and laugh out loud funny!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If you love the wonderful pairing of Molly Harper and Amanda Ronconi, you will I hope enjoy this new combination of author and reader. It’s hard to find heroines who are as tough, stylish and funny as Zelda or heroes who have a bit more dimension to them than just being HOT and brooding! I will look forward to the next in the series.

Have you listened to any of Stephanie Riggio’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Not yet

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes

Any additional comments?

If you are a bit unsettled by swearing, bloody fights and sex scenes then I would avoid this book. If you crave supernatural heroines with a sense of humour and don’t mind the gore that goes with it, then this is for you.

A Quick Entertaining Read

Although I enjoyed reading this book - it was good - the way the characters behaved and how they talked to one another I could well do without. There are a lot of fashion and pop culture references that I didn't get and I didn't really like our heroine and her continued nicknames. So although it wasn't all niggles and frustrations, there were enough to mean that I won't be buying any more of this series I would like to just add that I downloaded the narration of this book and I was impressed with Stephanie Riggio's performance; she is really good and I would buy books narrated by her in the future.

Loved it

Format: audiobook Narrator: Stephanie Reggio I really enjoyed this story, right from the off I liked the main character, Zelda is quirky, selfish, sassy and sarcastic but obviously her heart is good (even if she tries to deny it) and when we’re first introduced to her familiar, a cat called Fabio that as it happens she was in magical jail for killing, I couldn’t help but chuckle. Narrator was perfect, great story full of great characters that I’ve just added this author to my tbr list.

Fun Read

I enjoyed the characters and the story of Zelda. Fabio was funny and turned out who I thought he was in the end. The book was a nice light read. I would definitely recommend this. Now excuse me while I buy book 2.

***Hilarious***

Another winner by Robyn Peterman it's funny fast paced and I can't stop listening to it. Zelda our ex con witch is sassy feisty foul mouthed with a heart of gold with designer brands addiction and Fabio her mangy cat familiar omg I love the ending and Mac wow this is so good. Stephanie Riggio is awesome she gives each character their own unique personality and I can still hear them in my head individually.

Wickedly funny

Quick easy listen about a witch just released from witch prison. Zelda will be turned mortal in one month unless she can redeem her selfish ways. Teemed up with her ball licking back from the dead cat familiar Fabio shes off to live at her deceased aunts house. An aunt she had no idea about. It includes a group of shifters who think she's the next Shifter Whisper, a dominate werewolf who thinks Zelda is his mate & mystery of how her aunt died...
A quick easy listen with a sassy bad mouthed witch. Stephanie did an ok job as narrator, but wasn't overly fussed on her voice for Fabio. But a fun witchy romp.

love love

Its so weird i bought the ebook but decided to get the audio version. The start of this story was a bit odd but Zelda grew on me then Fabio the car appeared and I was a bit um not taken but his voice was everything. I want fabio the cat to come back I miss his voice so much. This story is awesome, goes to show that even when we've given up on ourselves finding a person who cares and beleives in you, can change a lot.
But I want fabio the cat back, his voice was really good.
