Publisher's summary

Chasing a dream is never easy, but if you go far enough, it will set you free.

Captain Liz Clark spent her youth dreaming of traveling the world by sailboat and surfing remote waves. When she was 22, she met a mentor who helped turn her desire into reality. Embarking on an adventure that most only fantasize about, she set sail from Santa Barbara, California, as captain of her 40-foot sailboat, Swell, headed south in search of surf, self, and the wonder and learning that lies beyond the unbroken horizon.

In true stories overflowing with wild waves and constant challenges, at the whim of the weather, of relationships sweet and sour, of nature's marvels and colorful cultures, Liz captures her voyage in gripping detail in this memoir, sharing tales of sailing in high seas, of solitude and surprises, of finding connection to the earth and commitment to living in harmony with it. She witnesses how her dream leads her to understanding the unity of all things.

More than 10 years, 20,000 miles, countless adventures, and one cat later, she's still out there.

Journey to the Heart

The adventurous tale of a citizen of the universe whom from joyous moments, love, friendship, serendipity and adversity begin to open her mind to a truth which has always been there, the bright and warm light of her own inner star. Few are those who listen to it, fewer still are those who understand.

Great Storytelling with Real Soul

Liz Clark is able to weave the story of her life in such a way that we all can relate too. We the readers toil away in the workaday world while Lizzy lives the life we all long for. Lizzy quickly becomes our hero as we realize that life’s trials are similar for Lizzy and the rest of us. A great book and wonderfully delivered in her own voice and feeling. A pearl from the blue water oceans to the lagoons.

A necessary read for young people

This was a wonderful read...listen and something that I think every young person should read before life’s obligations catch up. It’s inspirational, heartfelt, environmental, spiritual, philosophical, and an amazing adventure. I love the first person view of her experiences as she explores the world, her femininity which is interesting as a male reader, and contrasting ways of life across the world. A great read or listen! Thank you Liz!

Don't Give Up The Ship

It is amazing the amount of honesty with which Liz writes her story. Her narration was clearly heart felt and I cried a bit a number of times. Very inspiring, in terms of spiritual growth and self confidence, healing and Environmentalism. Will definitely listen again.

Highly recommended!

This is more than a book about a voyage. It's a reflection of personal growth during several trips around the sun. After hearing Lizzy speak at the St Francis Yacht Club, I gave an autographed copy of Swell to my daughter as a college graduation gift.

From the heart!

This book came across as recommended to me and I was drawn in by the cover art being a man of water myself. Captain Liz's story and trials are so similar to some of my own that I couldn't stop listening! To hear it in her own words and voice was perfect. Safe travels Captain, and keep exploring!
