Publisher's Summary

"While exploring the evidence for an afterlife, I witnessed some unbelievable things that are not supposed to be possible in our material world. Yet they were unavoidably and undeniably real. Despite my initial doubt, I came to realize that there are still aspects of nature which are neither understood or accepted, even though their reality has profound implications for understanding the true breadth of the human psyche and its possible continuity after death."

So begins Leslie Kean's impeccably researched investigation, revealing stunning and wide-ranging evidence suggesting that consciousness survives death. In her groundbreaking second book, she continues her examination of unexplained phenomena that began with her provocative New York Times best seller UFOs: Generals, Pilots, and Government Officials Go on the Record.

Kean explores the most compelling case studies of young children reporting verifiable details from past lives, contemporary mediums who seem to defy the boundaries of the brain and of the physical world, apparitions providing information about their lives on earth, and people who die and then come back to report journeys into another dimension. Based on facts and scientific studies, Surviving Death includes fascinating chapters by medical doctors, psychiatrists, and PhDs from four countries.

As a seasoned journalist whose work transcends belief systems and ideology, Kean enriches the narrative by including her own unexpected, confounding experiences encountered while she probed the question concerning all of us: Do we survive death?

Surprising!

If you could sum up Surviving Death in three words, what would they be?

Survival of Consciousness

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

Leslie Kean does a really wonderful job of putting in the hard work and research to back up everything that is written in this book. Her addition of personal experiences in combination give you a sense that she has thought very deeply about the subject. As a reader this aspect drew me into the story and left room for my own beliefs about the subject while expanding my understanding.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The change in narrator during the chapters written by different authors was extremely helpful. You clearly understood who was speaking.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The stories about children who remember their past lives is particularly interesting.

Any additional comments?

The sections about mediums was fascinating. I didn't realize that there were still physical mediums today. I had assumed this was a sort of fad from the past. Very interesting!

Mezmerizing

As someone rather new to these concepts (I've only read several near death experiences/memoirs) this is way more than I was expecting. I feel my world view completely shifting. The book is well organized and well documented.

Thought I had heard everything! Hmmm not everything. My personal experience with my husband passing recently was so similar to other pre-passing experiences. For 3 days before he passed he was in a state of sheer bliss and love. Great detail and diversity of the subject pertaining to the afterlife, and in some cases..the before life.

Surviving This Book

Interesting topic, boring book.

Author Kean's narration of her own book is uninspired and greatly irritating; fortunately, there are refreshing breaks delivered by more capable readers. Stepping up the speed of Kean's tedious droning is helpful.

There is nothing new here; you've read or heard it all before, including the old sneaker-on-the-hospital-ledge story. To make matters worse, Kean spends too much time exploring alternate explanations that she subsequently debunks as being highly improbable. So why bother examining them in such detail?
