Publisher's Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

From the Sunday Times best-selling author of Surrounded by Idiots.

Some people are exceptionally manipulative. They can convince anyone about anything and lure them with their charm. They enjoy controlling others and will do anything to get what they want.

Sound familiar?

The bad news is that you can’t really escape them. But here comes the good news: you can beat them at their own game.

After going through the highs and lows of different personality types (Red, Blue, Green and Yellow) in his international best seller Surrounded by Idiots, Swedish behavioural expert Thomas Erikson will now show you how your weaknesses and personality traits can be exploited by other people and how you can stop them in their tracks.

By learning more about your personality type and how you work, you’ll be able to see through any psychopath's manipulative behaviours and fend off their attempts to wreak havoc into your life.

Witty, engaging and informative, this book will give you everything you need to handle life’s most skilled manipulators and identify the psychopaths in your life...before it’s too late!

The reader is terrible!

He pauses at strange places and it doesn’t flow. The content is interesting but the way he reads is jarring.

Loved it!

This book is truly fascinating, I literally couldn't stop listening to it. Even had it on while I was training in the gym. I've learned so much about myself and other people and its made me understand the behaviours of those around me, resulting in me realising that I have a psychopath in my life and a very clever red manipulator. Now I feel like I understand! Thank you.

A Bit Slow in the Middle.

Overall, an interesting book. I found myself being really interested in the beginning, having listened to the first book.
As the chapters went on, I got progressively less engaged. Ended up at chapter 11 onwards, Where I found myself taking a couple of months off, returning, skipping forward as I was totally bored by it.

If you enjoyed the first book, its worth a listen for the first half.
I don't regret getting it, But I do regret not jumping to a different book after the half way point.

surrounded by idiots is better

I bought this book as I listened to Surrounded By Idiots and quite enjoyed it.
Although this one packs some interesting advice, it feels like there was a bit more fluff than the other book.
The narrator is the same, and it's a good one, so going in with low expectations about content will get you entertained as audio book.

Inaccurate and Offensively Niave Attacks

Completely inaccurate opinion on the intentions and lifestyles of people with pscopathy insensitive accusations and a clear insensitive attack on these individuals this isn't a Hollywood movie psychopaths don't act like this at all they're actually usually very nice, charmer, hyper successful people just trying to live their life with their own goals and careers just like everyone else

Very insightful and gives the answers we all need

I’ll be listening again. It’s an eye opener.
It’s also not read by that irritating American accent that drives most people away from listening to the end.
It was that good, I downloaded surrounded by Narcissists.
I can’t recommend this book highly enough.

Useful book against manipulators

I love all the nuance that is given to distinguish manipulators from true psychopaths. Also, how they destroy you depending on your personality.

More like pop psychology

I found this book tedious with too much reliance on a coloured disc personality tool that mainly relates to working styles. This book relates these working styles somewhat to social settings. Psychopathic tendencies are woven in to the different personality styles as the victim or perpetrator. Each chapter begins with a random quote without explaining anything about the person who made the quote. I think that one quote was from a fantasy writer!
There is no mention of the DSM-5 which clinicians refer to for making a diagnosis which I find surprising (at least by the time I stopped listening). The DSM-5 came out in 2013 where Psychopathy is described as Anti-social personality disorder. This book makes mention of Borderline Personality Disorder but I heard nothing about Narcissistic Personality Disorder. I may be wrong, but I got the distinct impression that the writer is not a qualified psychologist. I much prefer reading examples of behaviours observed first hand by trained professionals . If you’re intent in understanding psychopathic behaviour, take a look at the DSM-5, and read books dedicated to the different personality disorders. For a more light hearted look at psychopaths, I found Jon Ronson’s book ‘The Psychopath Test’ very interesting and more informative.

Interesting

A great outlook and way of understanding the bigger picture of personality types including how to avoid being abused by them and recognising behaviours.

A very interesting/scary read about human behaviours

A must read for anyone struggling to understand some human behaviours. I must admit I bought it as some fun light reading material but I was so intrigued and a little freaked out that I read it again a second time to be able to absorb it some more. I highly recommend as a very thought provoking book. Very well narrated. Thank you to the author. I Will be looking for other books in his series.

insightful

One of the few books I've read that simplifies response to these types - just get away from them.
