After saving the world, a reluctant young hero finds himself targeted for not having powers, in the final volume of this action-packed superhero series.
Matt Callaghan is alive—barely. Having escaped the destruction of the home he shared with Jane Walker after an attack by political assassins, he's back with the young superheroes of Morningstar Academy—and back in the center of a conspiracy that's unraveling the world around him. A cult still pursues him; governments still want his powerless human blood. Any hopes he once held of living a normal life seem dead and buried, and it's all Matt and Jane can do to try and ensure he doesn't end up the same way.
But there's no time to rest or recover. Unbeknownst to Matt or Jane, a great danger looms: a disaster brewing in the heart of New York City that threatens not just lives but the very fabric of reality. Only the full might of Jane and the Legion of Heroes can possibly save the world from this twisted, impossible catastrophe—which is exactly what their enemies are counting on.
And so the board is set; the pieces are laid for the final, twisted trap. Unseen forces prepare to reshape superhuman life as we know it, and every secret Matt and Jane unearth seems to reveal a dozen more. But Matt still has a few tricks up his sleeve, as well as old friends he can count on.
Meanwhile, Jane's abilities continue to grow and her patience has run out for those who would harm the people she cares about. Enemies beware: Lady Dawn is done letting evil control, corrupt, and triumph. With unimaginable power running through her veins and furious, iron-clad resolve, if the world won't bend to her will, she might just have to break it.
The fourth volume of the hit alternate-history series—with more than a million views on Royal Road—now available in paperback, ebook, and audiobook!

For one, the decisions made are baffling. Jane's character is all over the place, not consistently crazy enough to be deemed a villain, but definately not deserving of being a hero. Some of the things she does are infuriating. And Matt's limp responses of constantly saying "Please don't do that" but never following up, and her friends becoming effectively invisible once she shows up and never speaking up, are frustrating. The story also spends very little effort on their friends and their relationships with them in books 3 or 4.
Ultimately, I think we needed 1 more book in the middle that had them being regular heroes before things started taking a turn for the insane and Matt was turned into a damsel in distress, maybe even with him being with her in an earpiece since it's well established that he's both the brains and the conscience. Going from school life angry girl to unstoppable godlike being so fast really didn't do anyone's characters any favors, and while we saw glimpses of Jane being crazy and her friends being afraid, the story never actually took the time to explore that at all beyond mere mentions, which could have been a great plot. Also removal of the whole time travel thing would have been good. It rarely makes a story more coherent. I also really believe the big battle in this books beginning should have been at the end of book 3, rather than ending on the flash drive cliffhanger. The Battle ultimately wrapped up that plot thread and we could have used the intro of this book to properly prepare for the conclusion.
Lastly, while I understand in rough outline what happened in the ending, it was not nearly fleshed out enough to be at all satisfying. There are multiple PoV epilogue chapters, and things happen in them that feel like they're supposed to be wrapping up, but actually make it more confusing. Especially since the two last ones seem to be happening concurrently but also in different time periods or universes or something. Idk, I enjoyed the story for the most part but it really slid downhill after the first two. Author tried too hard to get to the ending they wanted.
Feels very weird.
