Publisher's Summary

A comprehensive summary of the book 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos, by Jordan B. Peterson.

Jordan B. Peterson’s 12 Rules for Life is quite thought provoking. The Canadian clinical psychologist puts forth his ideas about personality, being, existence; the interconnectedness of order and chaos, two forces evident in all of life; the gender roles assignment discourse; the source of the world’s greatest evils; and many other controversial topics.

It is refreshing, and sometimes confusing, how he weaves biblical accounts and characters into the telling of his stories. But what might raise the hairs of most are his views on political correctness regarding postmodernism, white privilege, cultural appropriation, and everything in between. One thing is clear about Peterson. He is a man unapologetic for his views, which are largely unpopular, closely conservative, and politically incorrect.

This audiobook contains a comprehensive, well-detailed summary and key takeaways of the original book by Jordan B. Peterson. It summarizes the book in detail to help people effectively understand, articulate, and imbibe the original work by Peterson. This audiobook is not meant to replace the original book, but to serve as a companion to it.

Thank God for the Summary

If I had to listen to the full book I'd shoot myself. The original author knows how to put it's listeners to sleep after pulling their hair out.

Duped

The clever book cover looks surprising like the one by Dr. Peterson. I thought this summary left out a lot of important parts (now that I have read the full book)..

Perfect Accompaniment

If you've read self-help books, and seen the true benefits that this style of literature can offer, you know that of the hundreds of pages you read in a typical book, the real value can be boiled down to a few pages on the greatest lesson offered. This book does just that over and over. It hits you with the key ideas, backs it up, and cross-references it with the original, which is a great book.. Incredibly valuable if you're interested in making sense of and categorizing the vast improvements to self, that self-help points you in the direction of. Highly recommended!

Summary missed the point

I’ve listed to the 12 Rules for Life audiobook and I feel like the author of this summary is somewhat an oversimplification. For example in summarizing the story about the lobster he fails to articulate that the lobsters behaviours are very basic but have evolved since millions of years ago, and that is evidence that similar behaviours in us are hard wired and not a behaviour recently learned or developed by humans. I’ve been somewhat surprised to learn that there are so many people opposed to Jordan Peterson and his ideas, I feel like part of the problem is that his ideas are sometimes misunderstood or misconstrued. I feel like this summary probably contributes to that problem. I thought 12 Rules was a very interesting book and incredibly practical. I was disappointed in the apparent negative slant of this summary and the apparent willful ignorance to articulate the points accurately.

All that it needs to be

Gets to the points quickly and efficiently, which is the best that can be expected of a summary like this.

Words to live by.

I'm not a religious person, but I was raised one. Normally I avoid a 'preachy' type of motivational media. But in this, the biblical references are just that, references. I found it enlightening, and historically engaging.
