Publisher's summary

Two years before the events of Stranger Things: Season 4, Eddie Munson—Hellfire Club leader, metalhead, and Hawkins outcast—has one shot to make it big.

Hawkins, Indiana: For most, it’s simply another idyllic, manicured all-American town. But for Eddie Munson, it’s like living in a perpetual Tomb of Horrors. Luckily, he has only a few more months to survive at Hawkins High. And what is senior year, really, but killing time between Dungeons & Dragons sessions with the Hellfire Club and gigs with his band, Corroded Coffin?

At the worst dive bar in town, Eddie meets Paige, someone who has pulled off a freaking miracle. She escaped Hawkins and built a wickedly cool life for herself working for a record producer in Los Angeles. Not only is she the definition of a badass—with killer taste in music—but she might also be the only person who actually appreciates Eddie as the bard he is instead of as the devil incarnate. But the best thing? She’s offering him a chance to make something of himself, and all he needs to do is get her a demo tape of Corroded Coffin’s best songs.

Just one problem: Recording costs money. Money Eddie doesn’t have. But he’s willing to do whatever it takes, even if that means relying on his dad. Al Munson has just stumbled back into Eddie’s life with another dubious scheme up his sleeve, and yet Eddie knows this is his only option to make enough dough in enough time. It’s a risk, but if it pays off he will finally have a one-way ticket out of Hawkins.

Eddie can feel it: 1984 is going to be his year.

Makes me love Eddie even more/relatable, but ultimately slightly frustrated.

Makes me feel sad even more so for what happens to Eddie although I love the fact that I got to fill in the gaps and love him as a character that much more simply because I relate to him more than I thought I would I’m grateful for it however. The only thing that seems to frustrate me is what seems to be a constant occurrence in the world right now is I don’t know if I can fit into this review but women being higher than men in some way shape or form what I mean by that is, they’re allowed to do one thing and their praise for it empowered yet if a man were to do the same thing, he would be frowned upon or even cast out and Booed I just wish that we could watch listen and view things where there’s actual equality not one sex attempting to point out the floss and tear down the other. The reason I write this is because we often go to things like this for a escape of the real world and its problems and issues it saddens me more than I can admit that it seems like it’s becoming nearly impossible to get away from that in any sort of entertainment outlet. Maybe people won’t realize what I mean by this, but I feel like if you listen, you’ll know exactly what I mean either way, thank you to the author for writing this book. to everyone else to make things like this possible sincerely a avid Audible fan

More to the Stranger Things-verse

We have more to add to the lore for Stranger Things, this time, about Eddie and his backstory. Story is rather good as far as Stranger Things go. Narration is also good, though said narrator gives a lot of the characters what sound to me like Southern accents. That flaw aside, a worthy addition to the expanded Stranger Things universe.

Dramatic but good

I’m a big Stranger Things & Eddie fan. It was good to hear Eddie’s backstory, even if it was a bit dramatic. Be prepared for a sad story.

Great Read!

I really love this book. I was a little sad that it wasn't longer. I really would have loved to read more about Eddie's past. Regardless, definitely recommend this book 10/10!! Great Narration as well. I wish Netflix makes this book come to life on TV as a short side series.

Outstanding

This made me love him more. Seeing Eddie in a different light made me hurt, happy, feel more grief then I have ever imagined. Thank you for this book

Awesome prequel to my favorite character

Was very cool to see how Eddie’s character developed prior to us meeting him in stranger things! I love his story and background and how he came to be the hero he was!

A little ‘meh’ but with a redeeming ending

Writing in first person present tense is a bold choice, and not one many authors can pull off well. Spoiler alert: this author is one of those who doesn’t. The whole novel has a bit of a childish feel to it, which is a shame. The characters are okay, but lack a certain depth (this often happens in first person narratives) I understand how challenging it is to write a character that is already established, and is very loved, so I don’t envy the author. The ending did actually feel like the character of Eddie, but in the rest of the novel… not so much. The book was okay. The story was okay, not particularly riveting. I didn’t hate it, but wouldn’t have missed anything if I hadn’t read it
