About this listen

There are a couple of reasons I shouldn't crush on Zach Stauff.

  1. He's my big brother's best friend.
  2. He's my roommate.
  3. He's straight.

None of those things matter when I'm around him, and my heart starts beating like crazy. He's been the star of my wet dreams since forever, but to him, I'm just the kid who used to eat mudcakes. That is, until he walks in on me playing with a cucumber - without my clothes on. Worse, I was on camera streaming to an online audience when he witnessed the "cucumber incident".

Now he's probably got a very different image of me.

My subscribers say we should make out. They say they'd pay good money for the show.

I can't ask Zach to do that.

But what if this is my best chance to touch something that isn't a vegetable?

Straight as a Cucumber is a 70,000-word romantic comedy novel with a little angst, lots of laughter, silly animals, and sillier men. Knowledge of prior books in the series is not at all necessary to enjoy this one. Buy now if you need a reason to smile today!

It's A Job

I love the humor that is found throughout this series. And the latest book is no different. Soda the parrot has some control issues. This story has some of the most fun storylines like long time crush, brother's best friend, straight roommate, and a little side of "porn". I really appreciated the building relationships and the fact that Zack has to work through all of his feels. There were a couple of interesting twist to the story as well.

I listened to the audio version and it just added to the fun.

Fun story full of sweetness and heat

I could listen to John Solo all day long. He did an incredible job bringing life to Emerson and Zach. This was a fun story full of sweetness and heat. Emerson needs a place to stay and winds up rooming with his older brother's best friend Zach. One day while filming his webcam show, Zach walks in on Emerson in a compromising position. That sparks Zach's curiosity as he starts to look at Emerson in a whole new light. This was a relatively low angst story that kept me smiling and laughing the whole time. I enjoyed how their relationship progressed, they are an adorablely cute couple. Loved Soda and Beggels!

change, growth, acceptance and more

I never want this series to end!!!! I love it. Aunt Rosy strikes again and does not fail to entertain. The dog and bird add endless entertainment value and must be experienced. I learned NOT to drink effervescent liquids while reading this, so be forewarned. I spontaneously erupted like a volcano and had the sinus flushing of my life. Lessons learned!!! Zack's chivalry, patience , and self restraint were so sweet my teeth ached . Emmy is so real and stole my heart. The narrator is a literal genius im bringing this story and characters to life. I highly recommend this book amd series. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review.

Fantastic rom-com listen

This book is part of a series but can be heard as a stand alone. This story uses two of my favorite tropes, my best friend’s brother and roommates! The characters and story are well developed and made me laugh out loud at times.

John Solo did a wonderful job narrating this fun and upbeat story. FYI the pets steal the show!

Enjoyed It a Lot

I enjoyed listening to this cute and fun story. I was expecting it to be very funny from the blurb and sample I listened to. Even though this book did not make me laugh, it was entertaining and fun. I liked Emerson and warmed up to Zach, they were good together, and I enjoyed following their interactions from the very first scenes and to growing chemistry between them. Narrator did a good job with voices and the story. Overall this was a fun listening experience and I am looking forward to more books by this author/narrator team.

Good story but....

I liked the story and the premise of it. I always love brother's best friend. I also like the not shaming sensuality and sexuality. However, Emerson kept whining about wanting to be treated like an adult when he constantly behaved childishly and it was annoying. Like super annoying. If you don't want to be treated like a child, don't act like one. His whining kept this story from being a full five stars. The narrator was excellent. The sexy times were hot. The pets were hilarious. Definitely worth a listen if you ignore Emerson's immaturity. He does grow up a little towards the end so that's a little redeeming. And by the end I mean the last chapter and epilogue. So hang in there to see a smidgen of maturity from him!

4 stars overall!

This one snuck up on me. I wasn't crazy about the type of humor shown early on, but continued on with it. Also, to be fair, I listened to the audiobook and wasn't crazy about the narration itself. But, somewhere in the last few hours, the story pulled me in and I found myself rooting for the two main characters. So, all in all, I would recommend this one.

When it comes to the narration - I'm not really a fan of John Solo's mm romance narrations. He has a habit of making at least one (if not both) of the MCs sound a bit whiny and overly dramatic than what the text calls for. I'm sure this is just personal preference on my part. But because the humor in this book was already a tad over the top, the narration on top of that just made it a little worse for wear in my opinion. I think it just needed to be toned down some.

I received a free audiobook copy in exchange for an honest review.
