This stunning debut novel from Australian author Lucy Christopher generated considerable buzz for its nonstop suspense and breathtaking imagery. Sixteen-year-old Gemma is on a layover at Bangkok Airport, headed to Vietnam with her parents. Then the vaguely familiar Ty drugs Gemma’s drink and steals her away. Her head swirling in confusion, Gemma soon finds herself fighting to survive in the unforgiving Outback.

This story made me incredibly sad, not for her but for Ty, all he ever wanted was to be loved and I get that. This is the second time I've listen to this book. The first was in high school when I had to read 7 books for some stupid project but being Dyslexic and ADHD that just wasn't going to happen. Back then I listened to it half heartily just enough to write a review and move onto the next book but this time it was like I was Gemma I could feel the heat beating down, the dry arrid land, the loneliness of it all. But I didn't feel her fear, from the word go it was obvious that Ty loved her beyond everything else, I don't like the normal romantic clap trap but this was different, subtle and not full of cliches. I don't want to give anything away because it has to be listened to. But I'm definitely going to listen to it again at some point as I listened to the whole thing in 2 nights and just couldn't turn it off. Emily Gray narrates it beautifully she definitely adds a lot to the book. I recommend it 100%

Poignant and Beautiful

Its not too often we find a book which induces us to feel sympathetic towards both victim and perpetrator of a crime. That's what made this book different for me, and enjoyable.

I did wish the ending could have been different, but ... of course ... it couldn't.

Naiveté and sweetness within criminal behaviour

What did you love best about Stolen?

I can truly see the heroine's dilemma and desperation. If you have ever been in any sort of abusive or dominating relationship, and felt unable to escape, or felt the complexities of co-dependency, you will probably love this book.

What other book might you compare Stolen to and why?

Room. Just a desperate, oh my gosh, what would I do, kind of a read.

What about Emily Gray’s performance did you like?

Excellent Aussie and British accents. Brings the main characters to life.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Extreme, no. But I cannot wait to hit "play" and don't want to get to the end and have it be over. Really enjoying it.

Desperate and real. Excellent narration.

I was all over the place with this story. My heart is breaking but it's also so beautiful and the strength and love and heartache and ... ugh so many feelings. I can't even wait to begin the second book, Release. I need to know how it all ends. But first I need to go have a cry.

my heart

I've cried and ached right along with Gemma, totally immersed in the beautiful and ugly world lain before the reader. Lucy Christopher has an amazing talent of sucking you in and keeping hold until the last words are spoken.

Beautifully Confusing
