Publisher's Summary

The prize possession of former football hero, part-time media personality, and full-time blowhard BJ Baker has been stolen from his palatial Palm Beach home. Baker has called in the mayor, the police, the sheriff, and everyone else he can co-opt into the search. But if he really wants the person who can find it, one name keeps coming up: Miami Jones. Problem is, he can't stand Jones. And the feeling is mutual.

Miami takes on a jealous husband, a feisty ex-con, and a police detective desperate to claim everyone else's 15 minutes of fame, and he finds that Florida is home to so many retired athletes he could start a pensioner football league. But can Miami hunt down the culprit before they graduate from theft to something far more deadly?

A great time

From start to finish ‘Stiff Arm Steal’ will keep you entertained and guessing who done it. The characters are interesting and fun and the writing is good! The plot keeps it interesting and moves at a good clip to keep you wanting more. If you’re looking to escape to the Florida heat and want a smart detective, Miami Jones is your man!

The narrator does a great job bringing the story to life and really added to the enjoyment of my story!

Decent story, good writing, but cliche hero

Right to it:

Pros: Stewart can turn a phrase pretty well; the mystery itself was reasonably good; and the narrator was good
Cons: The hero was the cliche tough but tender, wise-cracking PI who I sometimes found very annoying, and most of the other characters were stereotypes, some in the extreme

It wasn’t actually a bad book. For the right price I’ll try the second in the series.

Fun listen!

This was a fun listen. Enjoyable from start to finish. Some books go down like Tonic and lime 0blech) but this one is more like smooth Tennessee Whiskey.

Fun Read

I really enjoyed this story. Miami is a smart assed investigator that reminded me a lot of the Virgil Flowers series. I love it when I get a bit of humor throughout a great mystery and a small dose of romance. Its the kind of book I like after finishing something deep that gets you in the feels and nothing else could compare. This is light, fun and a great diversion from the commute. The narrator was very good. The difference between characters was subtle but clear. I recently finished Bad monkey and this reminded me a bit of that too. The great disappointment of that was in the narration. The readers voice didn't match the main character and I couldn't connect with it. That was not the case with Paul Heitsch . His reading was spot on and a great story was given the extra dimension that makes an audio book jump off the page.

Just loved it

Wow, I really enjoyed this book. This is the first book by this author I have read or listened to but if the rest of the books are like this it will definitely not be the last, I loved it. I really like the characters, especially the main character. He is clever with a smart mouth , that can get him into a lot of trouble, but I liked it he isn't afraid to speak his mind and when someone is miss behaving he isn't afraid to call them out on it, very funny. I also liked the secretary who gives as good as she gets and I liked.... far to many to name with out giving the story away. Needless to say it was a fun story that I really enjoyed. I didn't understand all the football worship and stats , but that is because I live in England, but the mystery was good enough that it didn't matter and with three cases on the go I was hooked until the end. I will be checking out he next book.
Miami Jones gets a new case tracking down a stolen football trophy during a party. The problem is he doesn't like his client, who still thinks he is in the major leagues and isn't afraid to throw his weight around, annoy everyone in the process. Then another one is stolen and this time the thief had a knife. No body is hurt but Miami thinks it won't be long before some is unless he can be stopped. With his deputy girlfriend who was also called in to investigate in her profession capacity Miami must cross the country to get ahead of the thief and narrowing down leads leads him to revisit people from his own football past. At the same time a worried wife hires Miami to find her missing and very depressed husband and a wife beater makes it onto Miami's raider. Can he solve or put an end to all three cases in time.
I really liked the narrator and thought he was one of just a hand full of reason why this was such a good book.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
