A startling, fiercely feminist re-imagining of Cinderella from the best-selling, award-winning author Jennifer Donnelly.

Don't just fracture the fairy tale. Shatter it.

Isabelle should be blissfully happy - she's about to win the handsome prince. Except Isabelle isn't the beautiful girl who lost the glass slipper and captured the prince's heart. She's the ugly stepsister who cut off her toes to fit into Cinderella's shoe...which is now filling with blood.

Isabelle tried to fit in. She cut away pieces of herself in order to become pretty. Sweet. More like Cinderella. But that only made her mean, jealous, and hollow. Now she has a chance to alter her destiny and prove what ugly stepsisters have always known: it takes more than heartache to break a girl.

Evoking the darker, original version of the Cinderella story, Stepsister shows us that ugly is in the eye of the beholder, and uses Jennifer Donnelly's trademark wit and wisdom to send an overlooked character on a journey toward empowerment, redemption...and a new definition of beauty.

You never outgrow a marvelous fairy tale… at least I hope you never do! Brilliantly written from a very different perspective. I loved this book. The story captures the true essence of strength. Strength of the heart and mind; courage, love and forgiveness.

A new perspective

Great story! I love the adult fairy tale genre- and this book is an exploration of how we might reconceive fairy tales when women own their strength and support each other.

What an amazing extention of a beloved fairy tale! it stays well to the Grimm story, but adds a little flare, and then extends off and on. What happened to those baddies, what was their life after? What happened to them? Surprise, you may feel some sympathy, and may end up rooting for them, and it may not be the end of the story before your love for the character(s) grows.

What an amazing extention of a beloved fairy tale!

For years, Jennifer Donnelly’s stories have touched my heart; she did it again with STEPSISTER!!!! What an eye opener/emphasis that every story depends so much of who‘s point of view you‘re telling it from. I will never see Cinderella as I used to! Thanks for giving me this new perspective! And thanks for empowering girls that are not the obvious center of attention!!!!! If we all just could be a little bit more open-minded and less quickly judging....

If you change perspective, one quickly judged girl gets a real chance

This book is a new addition to the Cinderella tale going beyond happy ever after into the after. I love the take on the sisters and the personality given to them.
