Publisher's Summary

From Wall Street Journal best-selling author Ilsa Madden-Mills comes a new stand-alone romance about a flawed hero and the woman he can’t forget.

"She crossed my path and changed my whole direction."

He calls himself Spider. I just knew him as the sinfully gorgeous guy with eyes of fire that fate sat next to me on the airplane.

I didn’t know who he really was...British rock star...my stepbrother. He kissed me because he thought we’d never see each other again. We would.

Everyone warned me about him. They told me he was ruthless and cold and screwed up. They said he’d leave me with a hole in my heart.

Maybe I should have listened. Maybe I should have built up a fortress to keep him out. But I crumbled instead.

They say an unbreakable thread connects those who are destined to meet. If that’s true, then the moment he sat next to me, we were bound together forever. He just had to figure it out before it’s too late....

LOVE STORY, RIGHT?

I DON'T DO CHEATERS, HAD ENOUGH OF THAT, so I don't need it on my reads! How could someone to claim love someone can be sleeping around like that. That's just not for me. I admire those who could stand reading stories like this one in which you move on but then become forgiving but forgot about the people that had been in your life after being thrown away in a humilating way, regardless. Destroying people emotionally is not on my genes, and I can't regoize in someone's HEA while someone else's heart is breaking! Like I said, this is just me but I highly recommend that you listen and judge for yourself.

PERFORMANCE IS JUST FREAKING PERFECTION!! Honesty, the only reason that I really listen till the very end!!

Spider!

What a ride, this story had my heart wrenching and the next chapter I am falling in love with a sexy rock star struggling with his demons. I love the narrators and the story was simply amazing.

Spider’s Rose Grows

The narration of this book was good but the actual characters lacked a certain depth I was looking for.
Spider grew the most as a character but it happened outside the pages. I would have loved to see more of his recovery instead of coming back to him 4 years later. I’m not sure how Rose grew and developed because she just seemed to be surviving and more passive than I had wanted.
It was an okay story, I’ve just gotten use to more from this author.

Not as good as the others

I enjoyed the other books in this series. This one just didn't do it for me. Sometimes instalove is believable. It wasn't here. The 2 MCs were supposed to have this deep connection that really wasn't that deep. Plus the female character cheated when she was in a good relationship with a good guy.

Fly Trap

An unlikely twist of fate bring these two main characters together for the first time at 11 and 16,then again at 17 and 22.Totally different backgrounds. The initial meeting on the plane had potential but then the author had really complicated the heck out of it by throwing in so many unlikely coincidences. The narration was great, loved the male English accent.

Expected more ....

I was disturbed my the underage / adult relationship, but once you move beyond that the story was still lacking. Basically girl gets treated wrong and keeps going back for more. Not my cup of tea. I'm a fan of the author so I will keep reading her books.

Great story but …

I enjoy Ilsa Madden-Mills’s writing but I purchased this book specifically because of the title as my brother-in-law had the same nickname.

Ms. MaddenMills did not let me down - The plot was full-bodied and the characters were complex but …

But the narrators were just so wrong! I enjoy Savannah Peachwood in most everything she reads, but her British accent when she was reading the male part was awful and there just didn’t seem to be any chemistry between the two narrators.

really good

(Spider & Rose): TRIGGERS: Domestic abuse, attempted sexual assault, murder, cheating, stalking, bullying. This book is so good and feels almost naughty to read. Rose has had a rough life and IMM takes us through that for a big part of the beginning of the book. It's a rather dark past, however she does have a slight bright spot in the shape of a teenage boy who helps her one day. There is a time jump but then the main characters have a study of meet -cute. They are funny together and they banter and even share a huge kiss. Then they find out, they are step siblings. 😯😯😯😯😯. Their parents notice a pull between them and try to keep them apart. Rose is still a minor at seventeen but only a few years younger than Spider. They try to stay apart but can't hold back until… all kinds of plot twists. The author goes for all emotions in this book. It's a great read though, I tend to cringe when it involves minors. Thankfully, it doesn't get risqué until after Rose is an adult.

Good.. I think. Difficult to rate.

Overall I think I’ll stick with a 4 star rating. I was absorbed in the story and didn’t get bored at any point. It was well narrated and decently written, and is comparable to other slightly angsty romance novels out there, and is better than many.

But ..and there is a but. This book is probably more suited to readers in their late teens/early twenties people, especially the big chunk at the start when the heroine is 17. There’s other women involved after the lead characters have met and that felt uncomfortable (as it was supposed to), cheating, and I generally felt a disconnect with the characters in the book. I started to dislike the heroine as the book went on. If you like books and relationships with a bit of drama and a rocky road to relationship bliss, then this is for you.

However, it can’t be denied I listened to this book all in one go and I’ll be getting more books by this author. I just hope the storylines and characterisation are a bit different in their other stories. If you buy this book with the caveats in mind that I outlined above, and that’s what you’re after, then you won’t be disappointed.
