Story
The death of Alexander the Great was the signal to begin the greatest war in human history - a war that swept like a firestorm from one end of the known world to the other, as his former generals fought like jackals to make his vast empire their own. By 305 BC, the most powerful players in this deadly game faced each other across the Mediterranean: Ptolemy, the master of Egypt, and Antigonus One-Eye, master of Asia. And between them, the island of Rhodes, a strategic fortress city that neither could afford to cede to the enemy.

Story
With Ulysses S. Grant now the head of the Union armies, plans have been put into place to dismantle the Confederate war machine once and for all. But, you can’t fight decisive battles against evasive opponents that fade into the landscape and strike like lightning in the night. A daring raid is devised to draw out the Confederate cavalry. The Union needs a group of soldiers just brazen enough to do it or die trying. Libby Prison’s most recent escapee, Johannes Wolf, and his unit of misfits, might just be the ones to get the job done - if they don’t kill each other first.

Story
Arimnestos of Plataea was one of the heroes of the Battle of Marathon, in which the heroic Greeks halted the invading Persians in their tracks, and fought in the equally celebrated naval battle at Salamis. But even these stunning victories only served to buy the Greeks time, as the Persians gathered a new army, returning with overwhelming force to strike the final killing blow. For the Greeks, divided and outnumbered, there was only one possible strategy: attack. And so, in the blazing summer of 479 BC, Arimnestos took up his spear one final time at the Battle of Plataea.

Story
Arimnestos of Plataea grew up wanting to be a bronzesmith, like his father. Then, in the chaos of war, he was taken to a city in the Persian empire and sold as a slave. To win his freedom he had to show that he could fight and kill. Now, to preserve that freedom, he must kill again. For the Persians are coming. A vast army sent by King Darius to put down the rebellious Greeks and burn the city of Athens to the ground. Standing against them on the plain of Marathon is a much smaller force of Athenians, alongside their Plataean allies. To defeat such overwhelming force seems impossible.

Arimnestos of Plataea is a man who has seen and done things that most men only dream about. Sold into slavery as a boy, he fought his way to freedom - and then to everlasting fame: standing alongside the Athenians at the Battle of Marathon where the Greeks crushed the invading Persians. Sometimes, however, a man's greatest triumph is followed by his greatest sorrow. Returning to his farm, Arimnestos finds that his wife, Euphoria, has died in childbirth, and in an instant his laurels turn to dust. But the gods are not finished with Arimnestos yet.

Publisher's Summary
The Peloponnesian War has begun. An army of merciless Spartan invaders have arrived at the gates of Plataea, bent on obliterating the city and its inhabitants. Plataea's oldest allies, the Athenians, are spread too thin in their own campaigns to send help. Cut off and alone, the Plataeans dig in behind their high walls for the coming siege, while the ruthless Spartans gather outside.
On a rugged mountain road, a young Plataean warrior named Nikias rides to Athens on an urgent quest. He carries with him a bag of ill-gotten gold, hoping to raise an army of mercenaries to help defend his city from the coming Spartan assault. But in the sprawling stronghold of Athens, Nikias encounters perils that prove to be more dangerous than those he has faced on the battlefield.
Noble Smith's Spartans at the Gates is a thrilling action-adventure novel set during the war between the great powers of ancient Greece.

An amazing story continues! LOVE the narration.
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
yes I would recommend! The perfect combination of engaging historical fiction and an great narration performance. The story is rich and full, and I ws pulled into an exciting world where men and women were truly struggling to be masters of their own fates and had a hand in the fulfillment of their destiny.
What does Elijah Alexander bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The narrator takes a great story to a whole new level. He has molded wonderfully specific and distinct characters, creating what, for me, was a very dynamic and immersive experience. The narration allowed me to "get lost" in the story, in a way I would not have done in reading the book.
