Publisher's summary

If you can ride a bike across town, you can ride across the country. And all that spandex? It's totally optional.

With this book learn what to eat, where to sleep, how to find a route that works for you, what to pack, crack logistics for transporting your bike, the all-important psychology of touring, and why training sucks.

Bicycle tourists usually resemble intimidating neon ironman superbugs, but don't let this fool you. You don't need to spend a fortune or become a mechanic. All you need is motivation and this book.

truly for the beginner

if you have been riding for more than a year. you will have learned most of this common stuff.
and unless you have only riden in jean shorts around the block. there is nothing better than Spandex and padding on your butt. along with butt lube.

one of my favorite books about cycling

As I said above; this is one of my favorite books about cycling. I have listened to it many times and will do so many more times I'm sure. it takes a light hearted and realistic look at what it takes to tour by bicycle.

A wonderful encouragement to ride

a delightful peek into the world of bicycle touring. Many fears felt by new riders and quiet concerns held even by those who are experienced are addressed in this book. If you have ridden a tour you can nod along with the encouragement and advice given. The authors' tone throughout the book is really light hearted with down to earth advice.
