Publisher's summary

Apple orchard owner Meg Corey is finally feeling settled into her new life in Granford - she's made friends, and her relationship with Seth Chapin is heating up - when her old Boston coworker Lauren Converse comes barreling into town, running the Congressional campaign for a former hometown football hero. But Meg doesn't have time to worry about why Seth seems reluctant to back Lauren's campaign when her neighbor, local dairy farmer Joyce Truesdell, is found dead from an apparent kick to the head from one of her cows.

When an autopsy shows that the fatal blow actually came from a weapon, Meg is even more troubled. Popular opinion points to Joyce's husband as the culprit, but Meg can't help wondering if someone wanted the outspoken dairy farmer out of the way - but why? She'll have to find out who had a beef with the victim, before she's the next one to get creamed....

Good story...dry at times

Overall I enjoyed this book but some parts were dry and I faded out from listening. However I did buy the next in the series to see if it picks up. The narrator varied her voice based on the character speaking which I appreciate.

A good story, enjoyable listen.

This is a good book, a mystery to keeps you wanting to continue on. The one thing I would say is as good as the narrator is she should work on her voices. I have listened to all of Sheila Connolly books that are available on Audible and the narrator uses the same character voices throughout all the books. It is like the characters jump from series to series. This isn't a major criticism, it's more of an observation as she does an excellent job with each book and series.

Great story, reader could show enthusiuasm

Loved the series. Very well written. Reader had good voice, but dragged. Almost as if the story itself bored her.

I hate the narrator

I don't think this narrator is a good fit for this series, however the series itself is very good. I wish the rest of the series was available to buy from Audible.

Who Killed My Cow

Would you consider the audio edition of Sour Apples to be better than the print version?

Can't say as I don't do print versions. The audio version is bound to be better in 99% of the books. With the right narrator of course.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Took a long time getting there but it was a decent ending.

What does Robin Miles bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Robin Miles manages to give each person and detail a lot of emphasis that gives a good listen regardless of the book itself. Reading it myself I just don't give it the dimensions that Robin Miles gives it.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The story doesn't lead itself for either emotion as all the people are not represented that way. So really no extreme emotions.

Any additional comments?

The unraveling of the toxic fields is what makes the story interesting. We're at book 6 and I still don't see any real romance between Meg and Seth. It's more like a friendship or brother/sister relationship.

I'm hooked

I'm enjoying reading Sheilla Connley's series. I always like finding a series where I can see the character develop and there is a good murder mystery thrown in.
