It was hailed as the answer to the obesity epidemic; a pill that allows you to eat anything you like and still lose weight. Millions were attracted by the promise of a leaner, fitter body, but there was a fatal and unforeseen flaw in this new panacea. A tiny microbe, lurking within, slowly infects the users. In turn they pass the infection to others with a sneeze, a cough or a simple kiss, and before long tens of millions are infected and turned into mindless, shambling wrecks, with the sole purpose of existing to eat.

Story
When a viral apocalypse kills 97 percent of the people on the planet, the survivors' humanity is hanging by a thread. Amid the leftovers of civilization, ex-Army Ranger Jason Larsen is reminded of the meaning of hope, family, and loyalty by a dog and a young boy who are as alone as he is. The survivors he seems to collect become family, and that is very bad news for those who think they run the apocalypse.

Story
It was just a random mutation - one of a billion that happen in viruses every day. But this one was different. It exploded out of Somalia and spread across the oceans before anybody thought to look up from their cell phones to see what was going on. The infected breathed the virus into the air around them, spreading it through the cities faster than anyone thought possible. Hospitals were overwhelmed. Police lines crumbled. Quarantine sites disintegrated. Cities started to collapse.

Publisher's Summary
One man's apocalypse is a serial killer's playground...
Paxton Bale wants nothing more than to lead his youth group and get home to his wife, but when a cosmic event causes people to turn into soulless monsters, he finds himself fighting for his life against the teens he was supposed to keep safe.
Trapped at the church, only a miracle can save him. A miracle named Danny, but Danny isn’t exactly who he says he is. Fresh off his last kill, Danny is what people define as a serial killer, and he is finding out that the rules from the old world don’t apply anymore.
In this chance encounter of two men, they each must find the balance of humanity and animalistic survival to make it out of the apocalypse alive.
Soulless Wanderers is the first book in the post-apocalyptic, dystopian series of the same name. If you like zombies, serial killers, and suspense, then you’ll love this pause-resisting series from Drew Strickland.

Brilliant!
Soulless Wanderers, the first bok in the Soulless Wanderers, is an incredible post-apocalyptic story. It's well-composed, unique, and gripping with phenomenal character development. I was entirely intrigued by Paxton and Danny; both characters were three-dimensional, complex, and the contrast to one another.
I thought Matthew Crow did a fantastic job with the narration; he captured the characters and flawlessly emulated the intensity of the scenes. I thoroughly enjoyed Soulless Wanderers; it's well-written and well-narrated, one I'll strongly recommend. I was given a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Must Read For Zompoc Enthusiasts
Soulless Wanders is a great take on the Zombie genre. Mixing Night of the Comet and a little Dexter to the walking dead genre this book hits home. The characters go thru a great journey and really come into their own thru the book. The characters are rich and colorful and though some have small parts you know that they will reemerge in the next books and you want to just keep reading and find out how their stories will unfold. The main characters arcs are perfect and you end up rooting for a good bad guy and hating bad good guy. The performance of the reader was at first hard to get into but by the end fit the characters perfectly. Im writing this after reading the second book in the series and I really enjoy the reader in the second book. I would definitely recommend this book and will be keeping my out for anything Drew writes.

A must read for everyone
Very different from other zombie books, the apocalypse has major influences on the story line, but the book isn't centered on it. This makes the book enjoyable for those of us who aren't that into zombies.
The character development is interesting to say the least, making the book a must read for anyone who likes to find meaning and symbism behind many every scene and the book itself.

A very original idea.
Disclaimer: I was provided a copy of this book free of charge in exchange for an honest review.
We've all read books about the zombie apocalypse and followed the tales of survivors in terrifying situations.
Never before though have I read one where we see how a, I suppose you could say, less than honourable person may act.
This is the tale of Paxton, a god-fearing man trying to save all he can during a 'zombie' outbreak and how thing go when Daniel joins them. The reason is, Daniel is has an alter ego who is a serial killer.
With both zombie-related violence and very real himan-evil, this book holds nothing back and the brilliant narration by Matthew Chow brings every horrifying moment to life.
A truly original story and very worth your time if you like either zombies or human killers.

What a brilliant take on this genre
Wow starting off with a youth paster and a serial killer in a world full of soulless and watch them change. Their 'journey' is amazing - there are some really sad moments in this story which really moved me and which you dont expect it this type of genre.
The narrator was brilliant and really added to the story and the atmosphere.
