Unfinished business ties us to the mortal world, to make atonement, find absolution, satisfy retribution, get things right. You won't find a sorrier group of halfway-house heroes. No illusions left - about ourselves, humanity, or what's really out there in the darkness. Just a purpose, to go down fighting the good fight. Because this is our last chance.

Pinball storyline
I enjoyed this book overall but it really felt like the characters were stuck in a pinball game. They spent the whole story just bouncing wildly from one location to the next and from one catastrophe to the next without ever getting a chance to really flesh out the setting or characters they met along the way. That frenetic movement did suit the 'scramble to solve the mystery' theme of the book, but it left me feeling like I missed half the story. Not bad overall, but I didn't enjoy this book as much as the other books from this author. I did get a kick out of the blend of usefulness and irreverence for religion expressed by the characters.

The reader’s phrasing/emphases are off somehow and it made him hard for me to understand compared to others who have read this author’s books, ymmv. The story was okay. I’d read another but I won’t be in a hurry about it.
