Waste of Time

This offered nothing more than a few mantras and basic review of chord progression. Weak.

Narrator Doesn't Know Music

I'm not sure why this book is discussing theory in the first place, but I, IV, V chords should not be read as letters. They are Roman numerals, and should be read as numbers. It could only confuse a person new to music theory. Those that already know music theory likely think as I do that the narrator should have been informed about how to read that notation.

A few basics. Nothing more.

This 37-minute audio book is only useful to the very very beginner level. Many concepts, when spoken instead of read, are confusing and of little value. The really silly part was that - after providing only a few VERY basics ideas of music theory - the author says, “Now you have everything you need to go out and write great songs.” Umm. No! I’m sorry to write a “poor” review, but the author specifically asks for honest feedback. So, there we go . . .

Short but decent

I enjoyed have the book was structured. But I do wish it was longer with more examples. I would've liked some more breakdowns of actual popular songs and exercises to perform other than just a harmony and a simple poem. Would say it would be worth $1.50.

Narrator has no clue...

The narrator makes a lot of mistakes in reading the text which for an audiobook is a fatal mistake. I would ask for my money back.

short but sweet!

This book had lots of good ideas and exercises to get you started on the bare bones basics of writing songs. It's a little too short for my tadtes but very useful!!!

Great (and very short) introduction in songwriting

Great narration and written well. But really short and brief and mostly about writing lyrics. He goes blazingly fast over the other topics on writing a song (melody, chords, key, ...)

Short but sweet

Very nice introduction to songwriting... introduces all the theory and harmonic conventions to push those who have little to no experience forward. And for all levels, it's great to review the basics. The reader was clear and concise. Definitely worth the price of admission.

Pretty ok...

The chapter about lyric writing was in fact good. It gives example and exercise that I could do to improve my lyrics writing. The rest of the information for the rest of the book was elementary at best. The writer could have gone in deeper about how all the elements ties together but instead he have chosen to teach basic music theory. This book is only good for very beginner that want to have a go at song writing and have no understanding of any music theory.

Not for music students

This is a waste of credit for anyone who's played an instrument or studied any music theory. This book is only for those who know absolutely nothing about making music. But as an introduction it goes by too fast and would be better if the reader had all the theory stuff on paper in front of them. Can't imagine how anyone who doesn't know a thing about music theory could keep up with the theory part with nothing but audio. So if it's not for music students and not for beginners either, who is it for?

A very concise but useful guide to writing a song. Worth reading for sure! Provided you have tried writing a song before this guide should give you better process.

Simple easy to understand and very educational.

Where does Songwriting: Powerful Melody, Lyric and Composing Skills to Help You Craft a Hit rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Ive read many music industry text this is the first Ive listened to,which I found very helpful. This book is very good and can sit amongest the great songwriting text that I would of been told to read while studying music at uni.

What did you like best about this story?

This is a very clear short text outlineing the steps needed to develop a song and a songwriteing habit. As a songwriter myself and teacher of the craft I very much appraciate how the autor has made this text so short and sweet.
