Resumen del Editor

There are few creative acts more mysterious and magical than writing a song. But what if the goal wasn't so mysterious and was actually achievable for anyone who wants to experience more magic and creativity in their life? That's something that anyone will be inspired to do after listening to Jeff Tweedy's How to Write One Song.

Why one song? Because the difference between one song and many songs isn't a cute semantic trick - it's an important distinction that can simplify a notoriously confusing art form. The idea of becoming a capital-S songwriter can seem daunting, but approached as a focused, self-contained event, the mystery and fear subsides, and songwriting becomes an exciting pursuit.

And then there is the energizing, nourishing creativity that can open up. How to Write One Song brings listeners into the intimate process of writing one song - lyrics, music, and putting it all together - and accesses the deep sense of wonder that remains at the heart of this curious yet incredibly fulfilling artistic act. But it’s equally about the importance of making creativity part of your life every day and of experiencing the hope, inspiration, and joy available to anyone who’s willing to get started.

Reseñas de la Crítica

“[A] guide to rediscovering the joys of creating that we all felt as children ... The main premise of Tweedy’s latest book is in the title, but many of his points could be applied equally to a variety of creative endeavors: namely, how to stop giving yourself excuses and start just doing the thing.” (The New York Times)

"Jeff Tweedy is the perfect example of the consummate songwriter...Given his decades of success as an artist, the veteran musician has a lot of insight and advice to offer about writing a song. Offering tips and advice along the way, Tweedy guides readers on such things as starting a song and handling writer's block, a dreaded moment for any writer." (Forbes)

"In four carefully crafted sections, renowned songwriter, musician, and performer Tweedy explains the mysteries of the 'ephemeral' process of a writing a song, from inspiration to process, suppressing one's annoying ego, and disappearing in the work .... Observing Tweedy's glowingly creative mind at work throughout this seriously fun book is truly illuminating.” (Booklist)

You will not be disappointed

Admittedly I am a fan of Jeff and Wilco... that said, I own at least 30 songwriting books. This is simple yet profound. Very personal and direct, clear and helpful. Jeff distilled all of the great songwriting wisdom and made it fun. Thank you Jeff!

Thoroughly Enjoyable

After finishing Mr. Tweedy's first memoir, "Let's Go, So We Can Get Back"(also highly recommended), I immediately downloaded this title. As a songwriter, it was such a treat to have what felt like a one-on-one conversation about the creative methods of one of my favorites, and a living legend of rock music. If you aren't a songwriter or musician, don't let that put you off. This book is so much more than an insight into the art of song crafting. It's lessons can be applied to all aspects of anyone's life. So do yourself a favor, download this book or audiobook. Then, download Mr. Tweedy's first book. Listen to, or read both of them in order of their release date. Although the latter isn't necessary, the former most certainly is. Here's to hoping Jeff Tweedy's output as an author rivals his prolific output as a songwriter. This man is a true American treasure. Thank you for sharing, sir.

Tweedy is the best

This book is so wholesome and well written. The exercises in this book are very helpful and fun. I am inspired to write from these new angles and I feel good about the second opinions about habits I have already formed.

Thank you to a musical father

Can’t emphasize enough the gratitude for your time in gathering your perspective. Means so much I’m crying again. Thank you Jeff Tweedy and team. One of the most impactful, validating books for amateur musicians with their teeth sinked in. I am there but feel empowered to wake up everyday with thought of getting back on the musical horse that is songwriting. May our songs be as impactful as yours are to me and so many others. Thank you thank you

I'm a musician and producer. This still helped me.

I'm a professional musician and producer. I've written a lot of songs, and I'm no amateur at it. Somehow this book still helped me a lot. The author couldn't have had put it better: "writers block is a judgement, not a disease".

Good for Songwriters, Great for New Songwriters

If you’re new to songwriting, I couldn’t recommend a better book. I’ve been writing for a few years now and Jeff hits on all the major learning points I’ve needed. He demystifies the process but also shows why it’s so important to write just for the hell of it. You’ll get good pointers and an enjoyable listening experience all at once.

Creative Kick in the Pants!

It was so wonderful to hear Jeff's voice narrating his own words and he gives examples that you're not going to be able to hear obviously reading a printed book. It's short and sweet and I learned so much and it really helped my creative juices get flowing again.

Inspiring book

Other than the occasional forceful language, I found the book really inspiring to get started with writing music

A charming exhortation to be creative

More than just walking through a process on how to craft a song, this is a sweet book about just letting yourself create to create. As a 40something with a strong internal critic, this entire point of view is deeply freeing. Can not recommend this book enough, no matter what creative itch you need to scratch.
