Marvelous story with mature H/h

Thank goodness for this book featuring two adults coming together after 20 years of being buffeted by life. I am fairly bored by 19 year old virgins these days since that time is a barely remembered 50 years in my past.
Mary Balogh creates complex characters with individual lives, products of both experiences and upbringing.
Rosalyn Landor is a gifted reader with the ability to express individual voices. I have never heard her mispronounce a word in the many, many books she has recorded that I have heard, some more than once.
Highly recommended with no reservations.

Very tiresome.

The first 3/4 of the book were, "I love him, but he doesn't love me." And "I love her, but she doesn't love me." It was so repetitive that I got very annoyed. And I've liked every other book in this series.

The narration was OK, but nothing could save this book. It is a real miss for me.

Typically Mary Balogh

Good story but as is often the case with Ms. Balogh it takes her such a LONG time to get anywhere. Most of her full length novels could be short stories. Sooo many repetitive parts. A bit frustrating but overall I have to recommend.

Another Fantastic Story!

I love Mary Balogh, I love Rosalyn Landor, and I LOVE the Westcott Series, so I was so excited for this book to come out, especially the audio version! Well, I was not disappointed -- it was great! This is the story of Viola Kingsley, who we met in earlier novels when she was revealed to be bigamously married to the late Earl of Riverdale. Now, stripped of her title, so there of her children now beating the shame of illegitimacy, she struggles to find her way amongst the ton. Quite by happenstance, while at a country inn alone, she meets up with a former acquaintance, with whom she had had brief mild flirtation many years before. While talking with Marcel Lamarr, now the Marquess of Dorchester, it becomes clear that the attraction is still there for them both. What if they acted upon it...?

Mary Balogh has another winner!

Someone To Care is part of a series, and though the story would be entertaining on its own, some parts just won’t have the same significance without reading the previous 3 books.
The winning combination of Mary Balogh’s writing coupled with Rosalyn Landor’s narration makes the audio version of this book a treat for the ears.

If you’re unfamiliar with this author, this is Regency romance written by a true Brit!

In this book we have the former Countess of Riverdale , Viola, running away to escape how crazy her life has become since finding out her marriage was invalid. I like to call it a mini mental health break.
By chance she stays at the same inn as the Marquess of Dorchester, Marcel Lamarr, whom she knew and was attracted to when she was a young neglected wife.
Marcel is a widower of 20 years, and feels tremendous guilt over how his young bride died. He remembers Viola and his attraction to her becomes renewed.
Though Marcel is supposed to be going to his estate to tend to his children and estate responsibilities, he too wants to run away, so they decide to do it together!
So what happens when two grown adults decide to take a little time out for themselves?
The whole world goes crazy!!

There are a lot of themes running through this book, some shallow, many deep, and I don’t want to write a 10 page review to explain them all. But suffice it to say that all types of readers will enjoy this book.

A bit repetitive

Some how this book became too repetitive for me. Not as good as her other books. The narrator is brilliant as usual. Thank you

Series keeps getting better and better

While I have a few definite favorites, I invariably find each one of Mary Balogh's books better than the last. This is the fourth volume of the Westcott series, and while familiarity with secondary characters is nice, it is by no means necessary to enjoy this wonderful addition. Suffice it to say that the book concerns a middle-aged woman at a crossroad in her life, feeling that much of what has come before amounted to less than she would have hoped or expected, and much of what lies ahead is unexciting at best. The backdrop for this particular story is bucolic England in the early 1800s, but Viola's disenchantment with her circumstances translates to almost any era or locale. (Because what mother hasn't felt like a discarded towel at some point in her life?) But then she meets that man, the one who long ago looked so appealing, and Mary Balogh's magic begins its work yet again. It just so happens that I read this book in December, and while it is NOT a Christmas story, there is, nonetheless, a delightful Christmas episode near the end of the book that contributes to the overall joyful resolution.

Wonderful

A really wonderful story that continues a family saga . A must if you have enjoyed other books in the series.

Wonderfully Sweet Romance

I adore Mary Balogh and Rosalyn Landor brings the tale to life in a beautiful way. This was a sweet story that will leave you with the warm fuzzy feeling all good stories leave in their wake.

Disappointing. Mary Balogh used to do a lot better than this. Landor saves the audiobook
with her talent.

Simply perfect and so wonderful to have a story with a slightly older heroine. Didn't want this one to end!

at last someone has the courage to write a romance where the main characters are more mature.

Enjoyable

With the exception of a few mawkish moments, a good story with likeable characters. Rosalind Landor's voices are excellent but she does overdo the treacle in places.

Seriously tedious.

The Hero pushed his wife away from him and she accidentally fell out of a window. So he turned his back against his twin children and fell into debauchery. His irritating younger brother and pious sister-in-law play a apart in this on going monologue. The Heroine steps out of her role as a virtuous woman and suffers mental anguish. The Committee gets involved, so lots more opinions and over acting. The only thing that might have uplifted the story is if there had been a pregnancy. Not worth listening to, alot of fastwarding. The end was predictable and boring, a pity about the rubbish in between.

Simply Lovely

There is no one better than Rosalyn Landor to read these marvellous stories of the Westcots . So enjoyable.
