Geoff Rickly’s debut novel Someone Who Isn’t Me is a feverish journey through the psyche of someone who no longer recognizes himself. When Geoff hears that a drug called ibogaine might be able to save him from his heroin addiction, he goes to a clinic in Mexico to confront the darkest and most destructive versions of himself. In this modern reimagining of the Divine Comedy, survival lurks in the darkest corners of Geoff’s brain, asking, will he make it? Can anyone?

This book was first lent to me and it changed my life the first read, it really resonated with me and my past experiences. But this audio book changed it all, it is able to stand out as one of the best audio books I’ve had the pleasure to listen to thank you to Geoff Rickly for this amazing book.

Raw and truly incredible

Trippy yet hyper real, so authentic and artistic in both content and format. Grateful to the author for such personal attention to the audio of this life- and love-affirming meditation on addiction, consciousness, recovery and more…

Love, love, love

If you only know Geoff Rickly from Thursday, you are missing out. I'm a huge Thursday fan because of Geoff's lyrics and those words have been incredibly impactful on my life. So when I saw he was releasing SWIM I knew it would be amazing. But it was so much more than that. Someone Who Isn't Me is the first fiction book I've read since childhood. Only Geoff could get me to read fiction. It's an incredible book that blends the facts with a story and that's also because Geoff is an incredible writer. His story is compelling and interesting. I can't wait to read the second book once it's finished.

SWIM adds to Geoff's legacy

I listened to this book after hearing about it on a podcast w/ author and translator Max Lawton, who always makes good recommendations. I love that Rickly composed and included an original soundtrack. I was unfamiliar with his prior musical work, but will check it out.

Remarkable story and very impressive performance of the book. I generally dislike read-by-the-author works, but perhaps since Rickly is a performer that is why it works. This might be the only author-read book I can abide.

Amazing story & perfect for audio format

This is the most poetic book I’ve ever listen to. Geoff’s mastery to tell his story in a way that is powerful, hopeful, and raw lets his authentic voice ring through each word. I can’t wait to read/listen to this again to pick up the deeper meanings that slipped by while sinking into words choice and ideas of what it means to my own life.
