Superintelligence asks the questions: What happens when machines surpass humans in general intelligence? Will artificial agents save or destroy us? Nick Bostrom lays the foundation for understanding the future of humanity and intelligent life. The human brain has some capabilities that the brains of other animals lack. It is to these distinctive capabilities that our species owes its dominant position. If machine brains surpassed human brains in general intelligence, then this new superintelligence could become extremely powerful - possibly beyond our control.

Brain imaging research is showing that stimulating glowing screens are as dopaminergic (dopamine activating) to the brain’s pleasure center as sex. And a growing mountain of clinical research correlates screen tech with disorders like ADHD, addiction, anxiety, depression, increased aggression, and even psychosis.

The grid is an accident of history and of culture, in no way intrinsic to how we produce, deliver and consume electrical power. Yet this is the system the United States ended up with, a jerry-built structure now so rickety and near collapse that a strong wind or a hot day can bring it to a grinding halt. The grid is now under threat from a new source: renewable and variable energy, which puts stress on its logics as much as its components.

Story
On May 31, 2014, in the Milwaukee suburb of Waukesha, Wisconsin, two 12-year-old girls attempted to stab their classmate to death. Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier’s violence was extreme, but what seemed even more frightening was that they committed their crime under the influence of a figure born by the internet: the so-called “Slenderman”. Yet the even more urgent aspect of the story, that the children involved suffered from undiagnosed mental illnesses, often went overlooked in coverage of the case.

It’s only a slight exaggeration to say that the British mathematician Alan Turing (1912-1954) saved the Allies from the Nazis, invented the computer and artificial intelligence, and anticipated gay liberation by decades--all before his suicide at age forty-one. This classic biography of the founder of computer science, reissued on the centenary of his birth with a substantial new preface by the author, is the definitive account of an extraordinary mind and life.

Run a Google search for “black girls” - what will you find? “Big Booty” and other sexually explicit terms are likely to come up as top search terms. But, if you type in “white girls”, the results are radically different. The suggested porn sites and un-moderated discussions about “why black women are so sassy” or “why black women are so angry” presents a disturbing portrait of black womanhood in modern society. In Algorithms of Oppression, Safiya Umoja Noble challenges the idea that search engines like Google offer an equal playing field for all forms of ideas, identities, and activities.

How should companies set strategies, governments design policies, and people plan their lives for a world so different from what we know? In Prediction Machines, three eminent economists recast the rise of AI as a drop in the cost of prediction. With this single, masterful stroke, they lift the curtain on the AI-is-magic hype and show how basic tools from economics provide clarity about the AI revolution and a basis for action by CEOs, managers, policy makers, investors, and entrepreneurs.

A college course at a fraction of the price!
As a beginner when it comes to marketing my business, this book was perfect for me.
The author introduces the A to Zs of social media marketing. And it’s current.
I’m an old mass media advertiser so I think it will still take me some time to get up to speed, but at least now I know the steps. This book has been very helpful in both steering me toward what fits my brand the best, and away from platforms and strategies that would be a waste of my time.
Thanks!

For beginners in affiliate marketing
Based on the title, I thought this book was going to be about specific social media tactics for each platform specifically, and how you can use it to grow your existing business. It turns out that this book is about making money with affiliate marketing and general tips that work broadly across all social media platforms. Regardless, the content is decent and it does give you what you need to know to get started and begin making money with affiliate marketing on the social media platform of your choice.
A few minor things about this book is there are inconsistencies with the narrator's quality. I understand that narrators must cut and paste different audio clips together to refine it, make revisions etc. but there are some areas where it sounds like the narrator recorded different sections in a separate room or with difference equipment. The narrator also has very unusual pauses, inflection, and tonality. Again, this is a minor thing but it definitely sticks out like a sore thumb considering that most audiobooks are above this level of quality. The other thing that makes it hard to navigate is the Chapters are generically titled (aka Chapter 1, Chapter 2 etc.) without the name of the chapter. This makes it hard to go back and forth to reference different sections. I would perhaps suggest adding the ebook PDF to accompany the audiobook or at the very least change the chapter listings in audible.
Overall this is a decent book for people who are new to making money online and would like to make commissions through affiliate marking by using social media to generate traffic.
