A spicy small-town enemies-to-lovers romance between a strong Black woman and a blue-eyed rancher with way too many secrets.

Imani arrives in this dusty little town as part of her government-contracted job:

Discover this small town’s scientific secrets—and keep it quiet.

Then she meets him.

Ajax.

Six-foot-three of pure trouble with blue eyes, a busted-up heart, and enough family drama to fill a country song. He’s the oldest brother in his family of local celebrities—the one everyone warns her about.

He glares instead of smiles.

He’s tall, blond, and more of an alphahole than the friendly country boy she expected.

They clash from day one.

Imani is too much of a bold city girl for him.

Ajax is too bitter and harsh for her.

But when tempers flare and secrets spill, chemistry ignites like a wildfire on the prairie.

Imani thought she would never end up with a white guy.

Ajax swore he’d never fall in love again.

He sure as hell didn’t plan on falling for her.

Tropes you’ll find inside:

Enemies to lovers
Grumpy / sunshine dynamic
Blue-eyed alpha cowboy
Black woman heroine
Small-town family drama
Off-the-charts heat

This is a spicy interracial romance standalone with a happily-ever-after ending and heat intended for grown folks only.

This book is so good with well developed characters. Lacy Laurel is one of the best narrators. I wish the epilogue was over a longer period of time so the reader could bask in their new love and finally the FMC self love.

Love Serena Jasper!

I would recommend this story to others. It was a fantastic second chance at Love

Great feel-good story

I liked the love story. I did not like the representation of Oklahoma because it makes it seem like the whole state is the same. Hated the way our hero spoke. I’ve been to Oklahoma many times and have family there. Never met anyone who spoke that way. Then they move to Boston??? Racism there can be in your face too. Know this from experience. Overall I think I could have given it a lower rating but I’ll leave it where it is.

No character development. Only spice. Definitely not enemies to lovers. If you’re looking for JUST SPICE then this is your book. That’s the only thing that had good development.

Don’t waste your time

The story was not believable. the timing of everything was off. Also there was no chemistry aside from sexual attraction but no depth.

Also this woman was not wise. And the initial half of the story was kind of random. Also the grand mystery wasn’t clear at all. Nor the motive. Also the racism was tiring. The fact that she didn’t think to record anything or call the agency they worked for at any time while all of this was going on is so strange. Also the idea that she couldn’t see him anymore as if phones don’t exist made no sense. And leaving your friend and hopping into a strange car is just not well thought through.

Just made no sense. So many plot holes and strange decisions.
