Tale of sobriety and climbing

I didn't personally connect with the story, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Well written, well performed. It's hard to call the book "enjoyable" as the subject matter was often very difficult, but it was a quick and interesting read. You can tell Brendan Leonard is genuine in his writing.

Redemption thru climbing

Young alcoholic stays sober and finds new life beyond drinking through climbing. He learns to appreciate struggles and hard won victories. He realizes his personal accomplishments led to a satisfying life.

can't get past the inhalations

the story is fine, the narrators constant inhalations which are incredibly audible are very distracting to me. you may not find it annoying, however I do suggest that you listen to the sample first before purchasing this book it may be more enjoyable to read it with your eyes instead of listening to it.....

Worth the listen

Thoroughly enjoyable listen! The title let me to think the tale would be different than it is, but that didn't matter, lovely!

As a climber I can fully relate to his perspective

As a climber and someone who has had her own struggles, I can fully relate to the author's perspective and experiences.

Fully-Rad Story

Brendon is well known in the outdoors community. He has a blog and social medias called Semi-Rad where he combines humor and wit into common outdoors situations. This is a very open and honest book about his life growing up in small town Iowa before moving to the mountains. The book focuses a lot on his early partying and addiction to binge drinking and how he ultimately got away from that and lives a fulfilling life outdoors. This is a great book for anyone interested in addiction recovery, moving to the mountains or generally escaping an imprisoning situation.

Raw authentic telling of his story

His perspective of the ease of being an alcoholic in the rural Midwest and his determination to change course, finding recovery in the mountains.

Struggling with addiction?

If you’re struggling with any form of addiction then you will probably really appreciate this book more then say someone who’s not. I definitely can say I share certain characteristics of the author and I’ve seen enough in my life to know to respect the pain addiction and recovery has on anyone unfortunate enough to experience it on either end, I still have never experienced the true life altering addiction in my own life and this is a great book to describe the journey one takes to reaching sobriety. I was not aware when I started the focus of the book was just that and had I known I wouldn’t have listened to it only because it has no bearing in my life but I’m glad I did. I was originally only interested in the climbing and adventure part I thought was gonna be the main focus of the storyline but the author writes well enough to engage the listener with his story even for someone with no similar history. I mostly only gave 3 stars for that reason alone, because it wasn’t what I expected but if I knew the story was mostly all about addiction I would have give 4 stars instead. The details didn’t do a good enough job spelling that out in my opinion.
