Publisher's Summary

When Brendan Leonard moved to the West at age 23, he was a mess. He had a tenuous grip on sobriety, only six months after his last drink had landed him in yet another jail cell. It was the final mistake in a long list that included multiple arrests, wrecked cars, broken bones, fistfights, and ruined relationships.

In Montana, he took his first steps into the Rocky Mountains, unwittingly beginning a decade-long obsession with climbing and a journey that would take him all over the West and Europe. Told with unflinching honesty and vulnerability, Sixty Meters to Anywhere is the memoir of a barstool storyteller who left the bar and found adventure, redemption, and a life that almost never happened.

Best book I’ve read in a long time

This was awesome. Brendan is damn gifted. It’s Probably the best book ever written about addiction, joy, life, college in Iowa and also rock climbing ever.
It’s nice to listen too, also. Good voice.

Alcoholic turns adrenaline junky turns his life into a book that is a better journal entry than something to be published.

It felt like a story that kept waiting to get going but there was never enough meat to make it very interesting. The end with him focusing on grandmas death didn’t fit with the rest of the book.

It was fine, whatever- I wouldn’t recommend it.

As a climber I can fully relate to his perspective

As a climber and someone who has had her own struggles, I can fully relate to the author's perspective and experiences.

can't get past the inhalations

the story is fine, the narrators constant inhalations which are incredibly audible are very distracting to me. you may not find it annoying, however I do suggest that you listen to the sample first before purchasing this book it may be more enjoyable to read it with your eyes instead of listening to it.....

Excellent!

I could picture the scenes so easily. I'm not an AA person, and I'm not a climber (though I do hike a lot)...you don't need to be either to appreciate this story. I would laugh out loud, gasp, and felt connected to Brendan
Highly recommend!

Struggling with addiction?

If you’re struggling with any form of addiction then you will probably really appreciate this book more then say someone who’s not. I definitely can say I share certain characteristics of the author and I’ve seen enough in my life to know to respect the pain addiction and recovery has on anyone unfortunate enough to experience it on either end, I still have never experienced the true life altering addiction in my own life and this is a great book to describe the journey one takes to reaching sobriety. I was not aware when I started the focus of the book was just that and had I known I wouldn’t have listened to it only because it has no bearing in my life but I’m glad I did. I was originally only interested in the climbing and adventure part I thought was gonna be the main focus of the storyline but the author writes well enough to engage the listener with his story even for someone with no similar history. I mostly only gave 3 stars for that reason alone, because it wasn’t what I expected but if I knew the story was mostly all about addiction I would have give 4 stars instead. The details didn’t do a good enough job spelling that out in my opinion.

Worth the listen

Thoroughly enjoyable listen! The title let me to think the tale would be different than it is, but that didn't matter, lovely!

Brendan Leonard Does It Again

I’ve been a huge fan of Brendan’s books, podcasts, artwork, and blog since watching his video “How to Run 100 Miles” (it’s on YouTube). As usual, Brendan combines inspiration and self-effacing humor to share about his life, mistakes, and the lessons he has learned. He’s an amazing writer.

DUI Joke

I do not know what the purpose of this book was. The highlight of this book was his dad's story of not getting a DUI. Otherwise it was a whiny monologue of his life.

Enlightening story.

This could be the start to your 60m journey.

After reading this I found semi rad.com
( Brandon's company ) for the middle age adventurer in all of us, his philosophy and approach to outdoor activities is super refreshing.

Inspiring

Loved this book. Raw and honest, it gives hope we can all make changes in our lives no matter how low we go. The immense love Brendan shows for his gran, and his family, and how he rebuilds himself through climbing is a real testimony of courage and determination. Read this book you will laugh and cry.

A story of sobriety

It’s a decent story well told. I read it because I knew of the author and his background in the outdoor space.

Sincere well written personal story

Endearing and inspiring- enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Great narration too. I miss the characters not because they are entertaining but because the voice is such a personal perspective
