Publisher's summary

Does a bear shift in the woods?

Well, partially. That was what got grizzly-shifter Ted Farnsworth into trouble. He wasn’t trying to break the Secrecy Pact. He just wants people to see the real him. So he signs up with the mate-matching service Supernatural Selection - which guarantees marriage to a perfect partner. Not only will Ted never be lonely again, but once his new beaver-shifter husband arrives, they’ll build Ted’s dream wilderness retreat together. Win-win.

Quentin Bertrand-Harrington, scion of an incubus dynasty, has abstained from sex since nearly killing his last lover. When his family declares it’s time for him to marry, Quentin decides the only way not to murder his partner is to pick someone who’s already dead. Supernatural Selection finds him the ideal vampire, and Quentin signs the marriage agreement sight unseen.

But a mix-up at Supernatural Selection contracts Quentin with Ted. What’s Ted supposed to do with an art historian who knows more about salad forks than screwdrivers? And how can Quentin resist Ted’s mouthwatering life force? Yet as they work together to untangle their inconvenient union, they begin to wonder if their unexpected match might be perfect after all.

Great Novel in 4 Acts

This is a very enjoyable book. And it is very well crafted as literature should be; I am impressed with E.J. Russell. It has thematic sections, as my allusion to acts in a play, that move forward in growing excitement. Even the minor characters feel organically grown and real. I had inklings of the direction coming in each of the next "acts" and it gave me a kind of exhilaration through a subtle foreshadowing that I really liked. I know I'm fresh off the high of reading it so I hope I'm not overselling it, but even if I am due to being in the throes of just finishing that says fine things about it too. I hope you'll like it too.

The narrator, Greg Boudreaux, is good enough that I went immediately to his page and bought more books he's read. They have a similar supernatural themes to Single White Incubus but are by different authors. I'm sure Greg will do great justice to them all.

Excellent performance on a solid romance

I picked up this book because I read the "Fae out of water" trilogy by this author (in print) and absolutely loved it. While the lore and characters in this one doesn't go quite as deep as the FOOW books, it is still thoroughly enjoyable. it takes place in the same story universe, so without giving out any spoilers I will say that it was an absolute pleasure to recognize familiar themes and faces.

The drama is mostly (not entirely) contained to the issues between the main characters, and that is perfectly fine here - they feel real, which made me care about their inner struggles.

The narrator does a wonderful job giving each character their own voice, and his tone and pacing are very pleasant and make this a comfortable and captivating listening experience.

fun and cute

This is an adorably fun romp through a surprisingly well-built world. I didn't expect the high quality world building, and back stories. the characters were super engaging, well written, and had great personalities. I also loved that multiple story hooks were left open, it leaves you with a feeling of completion, but you still have plenty to think about later.

Enjoyable

At first I thought the voicing of “Qbert” was weird but it was exactly appropriate for the character. I loved the off beat interactions and the final resolution was great. I listened with my husband who also was entertained though this was not his usual genre. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves supernatural love stories of any “shape”. I wish you hours of lovely entertainment.

Hilarious!

Hilarious and heartfelt, Single White Incubus followed Ted and Quentin who were never supposed to meet except for a slight error on their signed-in-blood marriage certificates. A love story with cute moments and hilarious hijinks, I’d highly recommend it.

Fantastic Experence

Absolutely loved it and Q-Burt's speech at the end of the novel is worth the time. I have no criticism of the novel at all. The tenderness between the two main characters is charming and realistic. The gathering of the ingredients of the spell is one of the most hysterical scenes in romance novels. Love is transforming and as both characters experience, it sometimes comes unexpectedly.

enjoyed it

📖 Story comment: Easy pace, likeable characters, enjoyed the story.
What i'd call light and fluffy - I listened to this before bed of a night over the span of a week and it was an easy and entertaining listen. Has me entertained enough that I will invest in the rest of the series.

🎧 Narrator comment: Greg Boudreaux is one of my favorite narrators and he's done a masterful performance bringing the characters and story to life. He suits the story and it's characters, he has good timing, rhythm, inflections and intonations and I had no trouble distinguishing the characters from each other.

Really good

So glad I found this author. This is the first book I've listed to by them but will be getting the next in the series. It's got a good flow, comedic moments and is just a lovely easy to listen to story about an unexpected couple.

Greg is always a great narrator, and this is no exception. A narrator can absolutely make or break a book but he did a brilliant job so thank you to him!

What a gem!

This book was a wonderful surprise. Great worldbuilding, riveting story, some snarky humor and interesting characters. I love Quentin and Ted. I’ve listened to other narrations by Greg Boudreaux, and liked them very much, but this narration is superb! The way he uses different voices, giving life to each character, is just… Wow! I bought the next two audiobooks before I even finished this one.

I looked for a change in listen and chose this on a whim... and really enjoyed it. All my comments are subjective other then that I listened to it in one day and will now be starting the second book.

Loved it

What a lovely book, funny, shifters and marriage, what more could we ask for? Oh yes, supernatural marriages that go wrong.

Ted wanted to marry a Beaver shifter to help him finish a cabin in the woods. Being a bear shifter himself, it seemed that would be ideal. However, paperwork was amiss, and he ended up married to an Incubus who was destined for a Vampire. So yep, we get to meet all sorts of shifters and sups.

I really enjoyed E.J. Russell's style of writing. It keeps my brain occupied all the time, and having it narrated by Greg finished it perfectly. Great book.
I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

Greg Boudreaux was a pleasure to listen to, clean and concise. I speed this narration up to 1.20 on Audible, which is usual for me.

Loved it!

4.5 Stars!

I absolutely loved this first book in the Supernatural Selection series! Funny story here, I read book 2 in the series a while ago, and have book 3 in my Kindle, but I hadn't read Single White Incubus yet. Bad Mari, I know, so many books and too little time. So, thankfully, when I saw the audiobook, I knew I had to listen to it.

Ted was the most adorable cinnamon roll of a bear shifter, a gentle giant, with more heart than brains (and I say this lovingly, because he was so sweet). It took me a while to warm up to Quentin, though, he was eh, not as charming as Ted, but once he started developing deeper feelings for Ted, he totally won me over. I just adored them together and I wish we'd have more page-time with them as a couple, but I was fairly happy with what we got.

I loved catching up with David and Alun, Mal, and Matt! And that scene with Quentin as Ted's advocate was all kinds of awesome!

Greg Boudreaux always does such a great job in his narrations, he has a huge range of voices and they're all amazing, which works especially well in ensemble-heavy books like this one.

Overall, Single White Incubus is a definite recommendation by me. It's a fun, engaging, steamy read, I was a bit annoyed at Quentin for a while, but I got over that and ended up rooting for him and Ted to find their HEA.

Matchmaking Gone Awry

Supernatural Selection is a matchmaker for, well, the supernatural. E.J. Russell has written many books about these creatures – many shifters, others with special powers – and I’ve enjoyed the audios that accompany them. I especially have a soft spot for the characters from the Fae Out of Water series and am always thrilled to see Alun make appearances and I truly enjoy his husband David who always just comes up with the best solutions to supernatural crises.

This story is about a bear shifter, Ted Farnsworth, and an incubus, Quentin Bertrand-Harrington. Both men signed up for the matchmaking services for different reasons, both signed their contracts without reading them carefully and – you guessed it – they wind up married to each other. Talk about opposites attract. Ted lives up in the woods and rarely goes to town. When he does, he’s apt to get into mischief because he’s so lonely. Quentin is incubus royalty from the East Coast who will very much be missed by the matron of the family who has no tolerance for antics like running off to marry so lowly bear shifter.

The men try to get the marriage ended, but that creates a whole new set of problems, and they soon realize maybe there was a reason the matchmaking service put them together in the first place. More pressing, however, is Ted’s troubles with his previous antics, and it’s up to Quentin to save him. With the help of a few friends.

I enjoyed the story – as I have all of Ms. Russell’s books – and I can recommend this one. Rounding out the pleasure is Greg Boudreaux’s lovely narration. I can’t wait for the next two books.

This was a wonderful book to listen too. It had a great story line, well rounded engaging characters and lots of laugh out loud humour. The reader was also a great match to the essential feel of the story, making it a truly great listen. Very well done in all respects

Such a cute and happy PRN m/m romance!

Bear shifter Ted Farnsworth is unusual, he’s an extrovert who likes company. He’s signed up with the Supernatural Selection match-making agency and he’s keen to marry his perfect match. Unfortunately, a SNAFU causes him to be mated with the wrong being, an incubus demon named Quentin Bertrand-Harrington. Both men are outraged, can’t stand each other, and seek to nullify the blood contract but slowly develop an appreciation for the other’s qualities. This was such a lovely warm-hearted and fun story, it’s light, fluffy and comfortingly predictable and I loved every minute! The enemies-to-lovers / opposites-attract tropes worked well together and i loved the fantasy world build. Greg Boudreaux narrated the audio with his usual verve! Can’t wait to listen to the rest of the series!!

Loved it!

This is my favourite book by E J Russell and Greg Boudreaux is one of my all time favourite narrators, so this audiobook is a match made in heaven for me! Ted and Q-Bert are both supernaturals looking for love and do they join a dating agency. Not just any dating agency but one that promises you your perfect match. They both got matched and are looking forward to their respective weddings. This takes a tumble at the first hurdle though when they discover that they’re married to each other and not their perfect matches. I loved watching the two very different personalities go from being antagonistic, to friends, to falling for each other. Really fun book with a great storyline!
