The story begins in 1962. On a rocky patch of the sun-drenched Italian coastline, a young innkeeper, chest-deep in daydreams, looks out over the incandescent waters of the Ligurian Sea and spies an apparition: a tall, thin woman, a vision in white, approaching him on a boat. She is an actress, he soon learns, an American starlet, and she is dying. And the story begins again today, half a world away, when an elderly Italian man shows up on a movie studio's back lot - searching for the mysterious woman he last saw at his hotel decades earlier.

OK
This book sounded good, but I was a little dissappointed in the whole story. It was cute and had some fun characters and a happy ending, the narrator just about did me in. I could hear her swallowing and she paused in the wrong places- it was very distracting. The story would have earned another star if it had another narrator who could really play up the characters.

Good story, bad narration
Although I did enjoy the story line - very light, not much character development - the narration was often painful. She would pause in the middle of a sentence and, thus, the sentence would lose its meaning and intent. She is a very slow reader, which was painful to me as I listened to the story. I have had an Audible subscription for six years now, and this is the first review I've felt compelled to write. I listen to about one book each week during my commute to work.

falls short
Ugh. Despite a lot of promise this book falls short due to the poor narration. The reader will read one line, pause, read the next line, pause, etc. It was simply impossible to listen to as the herky-jerky reading makes you want to pull out your hair.

From the beginning I was captured by the author's use of "Texas" colloquialisms. I found myself laughing out loud with "glued zippers" and allergies. Add this to your list this is a fun and entertaining book!

Be warned, NOT a cozy... tons of foul language.
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
This author could have eased up on the foul language and taking God's name in vain. It's a shame because I would have enjoyed this series but as it is I won't be listening to any more.
Would you ever listen to anything by Dixie Cash again?
No
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
The story wasn't bad.
Any additional comments?

Better than expected
I wasn’t sure about this one because of the narrator (but you get used to her.) The story is great and I loved the characters and the town of Salt Lick, TX. She gives great descriptions and you can visualize everything. If you love the Texas “twang” and countryside you will really enjoy this book. A definite winner.

Don't judge the book by its title
I thought this book was going to be as corny as it's title but I was wrong. This was an interesting and well plotted book. The characters were likable and relatable. The plot was interesting and funny. The narrator, Peggity Price, did a good job with the accent and the voices for each character. Although I have high praise for this book, I did feel like there was too much talking. I felt that the book was a little too much romance novel and not enough mystery novel. I'm hoping that in the next book it will be a little more mystery. If not I will still probably buy the third and possibly the rest of the books in the series because the so far I like what I have started.

Loved it....
I was hesitant to buy this book due to the negative comments about the narrator. I am so glad I did, I loved the story and the narrator. I know people who sound just like this narrator, I grew up in a small rural Texas town and this book nailed life in a small town. It is laugh out loud funny.

Story
Traumatized by the bombing of Dresden at the time he had been imprisoned, Pilgrim drifts through all events and history, sometimes deeply implicated, sometimes a witness. He is surrounded by Vonnegut's usual large cast of continuing characters (notably here the hack science fiction writer Kilgore Trout and the alien Tralfamadorians, who oversee his life and remind him constantly that there is no causation, no order, no motive to existence).

Story
Hilarious, fascinating, and a roller coaster of dizzying, historical what-ifs, Napoleon's Hemorrhoids is a potpourri for serious historians and casual history buffs. In one of Phil Mason's many revelations, you'll learn that Communist jets were two minutes away from opening fire on American planes during the Cuban missile crisis, when they had to turn back as they were running out of fuel. You'll discover that before the Battle of Waterloo, Napoleon's painful hemorrhoids prevented him from mounting his horse to survey the battlefield.
