Publisher's Summary

Chloe's quest to escape the Oracle's prophecy leads her to a magus with a secret: the eldren are not the only race to use magic in warfare. An ancient power is rediscovered, and a forgotten people will return.

Meanwhile, cursed by his birth, Dion tries to forge a new life at sea, away from both the eldren and his former life in Xanthos, but the one thing he can't leave behind is his heritage.

Two kings on opposite sides of the ocean prepare for war.

The clash of civilizations has only just begun....

Amazing story

I enjoyed listening to this story and to hear of the brave daughters of the first counsel and sad to hear of his betrayal and death. The narrator was was so excited. Thank you for your hard 💜 Simon Vance.

A great adventure.

I'm glad I discovered these treasures from James Maxwell. His storytelling is fantastic, the narration is great. The story doesn't fall victim to the same old, same old. There are length of surprises and twists to keep one interested. I can't wait to start the final installment. So, of I go.

good twists, initial character actions irrational

makes ABSOLUTELY no sense why Zach* the shapeahifter lied... he . DIDN'T want the horn to be exposed, so.. he said it was okay to expose it? wtf? and he wanted to STEAL it? he knew he could trust chloe and her father. he, the character. the author failed miserably at this ...

and why couldn't the "lost ice people" magically locate the horn? they only sensed it when the golden Arc was opened, but the linen sack was so good at secreting it's power the mage thought it was destroyed??

wtf is up with the old man? he blindly helps and also for help I counted 7 or 8 times and continues to blindly raise people or follow people because they pinky promised? But the author writes him as a political genius? how could a man - "First counselman" for decades, be so thoroughly penetrated by so many people??? even those considered far below his station? and then have the audacity to be shocked as he is gangbanged by the counsel members that are living rich as shit because he's not there? And that teeny little point that E. V. E. R. Y. single one of his buddies in the old counsel were publically, brutally murdered for SUPPORTING him! But yeah - He's a "returning hero" like he says. His reason? Well he saved the country from foreign invasion, of course! Well... actually he had sought - foreign - aid... again. Since nothing bad happened the LAST FUCKING TIME he did that! genius.

I couldn't hello but write this. because, I forced myself to listen and if I were to rant about reach idiotic point I came across - I might just say screw it and write my own book called, "Common sense decisions in everyday life: what not to do."

Addicted to all books performed by Steven Brand

I’m addicted this series. The story confuses a bit. Not sure I understand the virtues and who the monster was or why it exists. However the narrative is flawless and Brand’s portrayal of a sarcastic rogue soldier, Aron is often hilarious. Overall, witty, new, different tale.

Fantasy lover

Loved it ! I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. I especially enjoy Simon Vance as a narrator. His voice changes help form a mental vision of the characters yet aren't so dramatic as to leave nothing to the imagination.

Very good.

I wasn't disappointed. It's a definite 4.5 out of 5. I could see a Syfy 3 night movie series. It could happen.
