Silo 42: Exodus is the third installment in the Protopian Silo 42 series. Readers will be enthralled by this blend of elements in the Biblical “Exodus” story with the futurist cult classic “Mad Max.”

After five years, Silo 42 has fulfilled Ahotay’s vision of improving life and sharing sustainability practices with other silos. Now a group of residents, fueled by dreams of a better life, plan to do the unthinkable. They wish to go outside -- a full breach from The Pact. A volunteer team of engineers, farmers, medical staff, mechanical experts, and visionaries make preparations to leave the silo over the objection of many of their friends and families. As part of their preparations, those who wish to leave must make hard decisions whether to remain in the only home they’ve ever known or venture outside in search of a better life.

To improve their chances of survival, sturdy transportation wagons are built to carry tools and supplies, mobile medical units are designed for the very young and to handle medical emergencies. Protective suits are created for long term survival in the toxic world outside. Food was stockpiled, seeds collected, and animals assembled to prepare for a new life on the surface. As the time nears to leave, tensions arise between those staying and the pioneers who wish to start anew on an Earth that had long been abandoned. Meanwhile, a romantic marriage proposal forges a new path among two leaders within the departing party.

Who will stay and who will go?

Will those leaving the silo sufficiently prepare for what they will face on the surface?

Will Silo 1 detect the Exodus and will Silo 42 escape their fury?

The characters and plot are good. I feel it was a great addition to the Hugh Howey Silo series.

The AI reading is horrible, the voice has the wrong intonation, the cadence is often off. words with multiple pronunciation is often wrong. It struggles with names. These issues break immersion, and make the story feel flat at times when the emotion should be high. I will never pay for a book I know is read by AI! It not fair to the author, but if this book wasn't free for me I wouldn't have listened to it at all.
