Publisher's Summary

Sidney Crosby is ready to tell his story in his own words. As one of the greatest NHL players of all time, he reflects on his 2005-06 rookie season with the Pittsburgh Penguins. From a Canadian phenom dubbed “the next Gretzky” to an 18-year-old carrying the burden of a struggling franchise, he talks candidly about the intense pressure he was under, the surreal experience of lacing up alongside his childhood idol Mario Lemieux and the truth about his rivalry with Alex Ovechkin. Sidney Crosby, with the help of his family, coaches and former teammates, gives listeners an all-access pass to one of the most scrutinized and tumultuous rookie seasons in the history of professional hockey. Hosted by Pittsburgh native and Penguins fan Joe Manganiello.

Neat story, disappointed with foul language

I wish athletes would not use such foul language. It could have been omitted from the book.

Hockey fan dream!

If you’re a hockey fan and want a firsthand account of what it’s like to be one of the greatest hockey players to ever play, here’s your gift.

Terrific production! Great firsthand accounts as told by Sid’s parents, teammates, associated media personalities, and more. Just terrific!

If you are a hockey fan, you'll like it.

I'm not a Penguins fan, so I wasn't sure if I would like it. This is pretty much a podcast, as you hear the actual voices of each person. At first, I found the story boring, but about an hour in it got much better.

From a Caps fan

I’ve watched, and suffered, many years of Sydney Crosby beating my team. I loved watching the caps finally beat the Pens and go on to win the cup. However, listening to this story of one of, if not the greatest, hockey players of all time, was truly a wonderful experience. I came into it with, oh great, let’s talk about Crosby…. But finished it yearning to hear more. If Crosby is half the guy his peers claim he is, he one heck of a guy. Thanks for the time and dedication it took to make another great hockey story.

The Kid

Rarely does a sports icon live up to his billing…. Sidney Crosby has. This book is an insight to a young hockey phenomenon that is both personal and endearing.

Excellent and Enjoyable

This audio book was well written and the narration was excellent. Many enjoyable stories shared by Sidney, teammates, coaches, friends and family. It also provides a very good example of leadership, commitment and teamwork. Once you start, you will not want to stop.

Excellent presentation.

I have read/listen to many biographies or autobiographies of various sports legends. This presentation was especially good because of the narrations by Sydney, his family, his team members, and Mario Lemieux. Mr Crosby is a ‘one of a kind’ hockey player and a wonderful sounding human being. His parents must be so proud of their son and all he represents.

Sid Th Kid unites the world of hockey

A wonderful trip down memory lane about a truely spectacular prodigy. This book had me smiling, it had tears in my eyes and it showed what had to come together to help Sid and the Penguins organisation bring the world of hockey together, to evolve a league, inspire fans world wide and to ultimately guide Sid to be one of, if not, the best hockey player of all time!
Wonderfully written! Well worth a listen!

Truly Special Story of a Special Player

I found this surprisingly emotional and really informative. While the narrative isn't new it was great to hear straight from the people who were there how this year unfolded and came to be. Great sound production and well-paced.
