Publisher's summary

From USA Today and Wall Street Journal best-selling author Becca Steele comes a new standalone M/M college romance.

I’ve been in love with my best friend, Ander, for as long as I can remember. I’ve always kept my feelings to myself, knowing that I’d never have a chance because he’s straight.

Until the day he does me a favour by pretending to be my boyfriend.

After that, things change. He’s suddenly interested in experimenting with guys…just not with me.

It’s time for me to move on, and accept that nothing between us will ever change. He only sees me as his best friend.

Except…now he’s looking at me in a different way.

Does he feel something more than friendship for me, or am I just deluding myself?

I guess it’s time to find out.

Sidelined is an M/M new adult college romance with best friends to lovers and bi awakening themes. It is the second book in the LSU series. Each book can be listened to as a stand-alone.

Loved, LOVED, Loved this story! Perfect Second book in series

I have been dying for this audiobook to come out. It did not disappoint at all! This is Elliott and Anders’ story of two best friends and unrequited love. In true Becca Steele fashion, it is very angsty, but so worth it. Elliott is out and secretly in love with his best friend, Ander. Ander is completely clueless about it. Until, he decided he needs to explore.

I love Elliott - he was adorable in book one of the series. Ander….well, there are moments you want to tell him to wake up and just hug Elliott for what he endures trying to repress his feelings in order to retain their friendship.

I will listen to this over and over again. Especially with the narration. PLEASE keep these narrators on the series with the duet format. It was PERFECT! I could honestly listen to Will Watt narrating the tax code and be happy.

Totally worth a credit. I hope there are more stories in the series to come soon! ❤️

Ander + Elliott

4/5 ⭐
3/5 🌶️
4/5 🎧

Another great addition to the LSU series, this time with a friends to lovers bi-awakening story. Ander and Elliott we so cute, especially Elliott as he navigated his unrequited crush.

I loved the back and forth with these two, from the first kiss to what felt like every time things escalated between them. It was almost like a mutual unrequited feeling as each one of them felt like they liked/loved the other more and were afraid they were getting too attached.

The audio was really good, like Blindsided, there were moments when the secondary audio felt muffled or distant... But I really loved the narrators and thought they did a wonderful job.

Ander made me want a redo

Wow. What a beautiful story and the performance was epic. I'm sobbing over corrected memories and wishing that men like Ander exist. Such a great love story.

So many emotions!!

I dove right into book 2 after finishing up book 1 yesterday and listened too quickly 😭 I cannot wait for JJ and his older man in book 3, I have a feel it’s going to be steaaaaamy haha. This series is amazing, and the interconnected stories with even more cameos in this one was fantastic! We got to reconnect with our Collided guys and some of their friends (anyone else hoping a certain band member gets his own love story...maybe book 4 in the LSU world?!?!) and get glimpses of characters from other books by this author (like more Alstone alums hehe). I enjoyed the plot in this one with more soccer glimpses (I felt for both of the guys when Ander when down with his injury) but it was cute to see later Elliott cheering him on in the big game. I think I enjoyed book 1 more than book 2 but I still liked their story and was super happy with how it ended!

So for me I think there was so much miscommunication that it was too much for me. I get where the author was going but for me it was like nonstop miscommunication and the rollercoaster ride between them seemed to not flow as well as the author has done in all her other books. Might be personal preference but again I still give this 4-4.5 stars because the love story was lovely even if frustrating a lot of the time haha. I loved Elliott so much, he has this unrequited love for his bestie and things randomly happen and then his world is abruptly turned upside down. I wasn’t a huge fan of Ander in the beginning (or in the previous book) but he slowly got me on his side haha. The way he fell so hard for Elliott without even realizing it was swoonworthy. I really appreciated how he freaked out a couple times because his realization about his feelings were so daunting and new to him. It made him more relatable and less of a playboy and more of a vulnerable guy learning more about himself than he ever has. I loved their moments before things went bad, and the ending with their dates and the epilogue....so many butterflies. I also loved the dancing part hahaha.

Narration was fantastic as always but my only critique would be how the narrators portrayed JJ and his friends from the club. They made them sound like how media depicts stereotypical “femboys” and it turned me off to the narration. I understand they were trying to portray different characters and tried to portray them in a certain way but for me it made them sound very nasally/whiney and just added to that stereotype and stigma that needs to end. The rest of the narration was 5/5 for me, I will always listen to these narrators. The emotional rollercoaster these two took us on was hard to do narration-wise but these 2 did an amazing job (along with the help of Stella Hunter who I love!). I got teary-eyed with the guys tumultuous feelings and how they were hurting themselves and each other since they failed at communicating over and over again haha.

I am itching for JJ’s story, I think that is going to be explosive and a different take than we have seen from this author before. I am definitely gonna get this series in the beautiful animated covers, these love stories deserve to be on my shelf for me to revisit and show off 😍

Cute

Cute story. Loved the MLs and their story. Wish there was more of a backstory or just more of an awakening for Anderson but it was still a nice story

Narration helped me to finish

This book was so much work for me. If it wasn’t for the narration I would have returned it. It was such a loser compared to the one before. I don’t care for high school/college books. I felt like these guys acted like 8th grade immaturity. Back and forth between no and yes and oh I don’t want him to know I love him. This book is not worth it even with perfect narration.

Bleh!!!!!

This was such a struggle to finish! I really enjoyed the previous book so was excited to hear this duos story. However, so much frustration for the reader to have to listen to both Ander and Elliot make assumptions over one another the entire way through!!!! We would’ve skipped to HEA a lot sooner if they would both stop running away and just talked it out! Or if one of their “helpful” friends just told at least one of them to stop being a chicken and be honest. I thought that Elliot was super unfair to Ander and didn’t give him the benefit of the doubt enough, even though Ander was the sweetest friend and continuously catered to Elliot. Bleh! Definitely not a book I’ll come back to.

The narrator were excellent but couldn’t keep me invested.
