Warning: This is an extreme horror novel. There is gore. There is bad language. There are scenes of a sexual nature. But hidden underneath it all is also a chilling story. Please do not purchase this audiobook if you are easily shocked, disgusted or offended. This book is not for you.

A family will do anything to survive after a nuclear attack has left their world in ruins. Actions which even surprise them...

I wasn't sure if this would have any kind of story behind the gore and sex that was mentioned. I have to say it was great. Not only graphic but it had a well thought out twisted story, interesting main character, and great narration. I will definitely be getting more books from this author and narrator in the future.

Fantastic!

Made me even question my own humanity. Reminded me to see the beauty in absolute tragedy. Amazing plot twist. Scratched every inch of my over analytical brain and I absolutely loved the constant internal struggle!

I really really enjoyed the writers style. The way the flow of the story changed was riveting but not a slap to the face. The narrator was amazing, really made me feel like I was actually the character! And the change up for various things like accents and even dialogue for scenes describing audio was perfect! Thank you to my friend NikklePickle for suggesting it!

Twisted but beautiful.

This was a bit of a let down. I didn't find anything to be too gross or graphic. The narrator was brilliant, though.

I think the warnings about gore, violence and sex being too extreme for some people was a brilliant marketing ploy.

I'm not purchasing any of the other stories.

Not too extreme for me.

overall the book had a slightly interesting story but it left me wanting so much more. The tag extreme horror is not accurate, I expected something along the lines of Chuck Palahniuk or Jack Ketchum but I thought this was pretty mild compared to those two authors.

This is not what I would call Extreme horror.

Would you consider the audio edition of Sick Bastards to be better than the print version?

The print version of Sick B*stards is brilliant. It is the perfect mix of uncomfortable gore, sex and violence combined with a story that will keep you guessing until the very end. Was the audiobook better than the book? No, but the audiobook adds an incredible depth to the story and really makes every scene come alive.

What did you like best about this story?

What I liked best about Sick B*stards was the story itself. It was well-written with natural dialog that Chris Barnes read brilliantly. There are some incredibly graphic scenes of violence, sex and gore in this book, but they are all necessary to the story, not just thrown in for shock value. My favorite part? Sick B*astards makes the reader think of just how far they would go to survive.

Which scene was your favorite?

My favorite scene might have been where Brother kills Michael Bray. ;) If that one isn't good enough, all the scenes where the family is eating their meat made me a little ill. I still can't enjoy a nice fillet steak.

Who was the most memorable character of Sick Bastards and why?

The entire family, Father, Mother, Brother and Sister were very memorable. In fact, I don't think I could forget that family if I tried.

Any additional comments?

I read Sick B*stards when it first came out in 2013 and it got me hooked on all of Matt Shaw's black cover books. When I found out that Chris Barnes would be narrating the audiobook version, I let out a little squeal. Barnes brings a certain charm, intensity and darkness to the book that made listening to it a whole different experience from reading it. This book is perfect for fans of dark, disturbing and disgusting extreme horror and if you're at all sensitive, this is not the book for you.

When it's revealed this family loses their identities.

Which character – as performed by Chris Barnes – was your favorite?

The main character - son

If you could rename Sick Bastards, what would you call it?

A Twisted Family Life.

Any additional comments?

Enjoyable.

If you could sum up Sick Bastards in three words, what would they be?

Good Short Story.

Would you be willing to try another book from Matt Shaw? Why or why not?

Yes, i believe i'm going to listen to at least most of the ones read by Chris Barnes. While I didn't really find the book to be that extreme, and please don't get me wrong it is most certainly an over the edge book, i have listened to other stories that are FAR more intense then this. However it was a really entertaining listen and Chris Barnes does a fabulous job so I will definitely have to give the others a go.

What about Chris Barnes’s performance did you like?

Chris Barnes is a brilliant narrator. I found him to do a fantastic job with the various voices and tones required in the book and his overall tone of speech is wonderful to listen to. Chris Barnes has certainly made it on my list of narrators in the A class. I put him in the same catagory as Simon Vance, R.C. Bray and Whil Wheaton.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Unfortunately no, again i really did enjoy the story but it left me waiting for that over the top moment that just didn't seem to come.

Any additional comments?

I guess the last thing I would like to say is while an entertaining story, may I suggest a few titles such as The Troop, most of the books by Jack Kilborn and the books Tim and Tim2. These are disturbing books.

Eh, I didn't find it to be all that extreme.

There was a moment where I really thought this was going to be JUST post-apocalyptic zombie killing book. I was wrong. This was vile, gut-wrenching, and psychotic with a side helping of "what would you do if you woke up not knowing who and where you are and who these 3 strangers are. It got wild. I loved it. There was also a side of cannibalism drizzled in maybe zombie appearances. The title says it all, but it's putting it lightly.
