Matthew "Wolf" Steel hated flying commercial. Luckily his job as a Navy SEAL meant he didn't have to do it very often. He'd been unlucky enough to be assigned a middle seat on the cramped jet, but fortunately for him, the woman next to him was willing to switch seats with him. Hoping for a relaxing flight, Wolf was pleasantly surprised at the good conversation and sense of humor the woman had as they flew 36,000 feet over the countryside.

Publisher's Summary
She's shy, he's stoic...not the hardest personality traits to overcome, but Sophie Carson and Roman "Chief" Proudfit have their work cut out for them.
Sophie has a crush on the silent-but-studly firefighter next door. She's been pining away silently while secretly helping the hardworking man by mowing his lawn - which he thinks is being done by her nonexistent husband and/or boyfriend. He's definitely not big on neighborly chitchat, but with her stutter, that suits Sophie just fine. But now a misunderstanding at a bar has put him even further out of her reach.
Roman's difficult upbringing on an Indian reservation is a sore spot, so when he thinks Sophie is taking advantage of poor people for medical trials at her workplace, he lets her know exactly what he thinks. But when he discovers he misunderstood, he's man enough to admit it...and also that he should have opened his eyes to his beautiful, sensitive neighbor sooner.
As the couple gets closer, each helping the other overcome lifelong pains, for the first time in years, Roman has something to live for other than his job. And, as he discovers when Sophie puts herself in danger, something even bigger to lose....
Shelter for Sophie is the eighth book in the Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes Series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.

So worth the wait!
What about Erin Mallon’s performance did you like?
I loved that she was able to perform both the male and female roles so well and distinctly. At some points when Chief was talking, i almost forgot that the narrator was a female! Also, she did an exceptional job with the stutter for Sophie!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
yes and i totally did!
Any additional comments?
Chief and Sophie were amazing. I was so impatiently awaiting the release of this book and i have to say, I loved this book so much. First off the narrator, Erin Mallon, did a fantastic job with this book and the stutter for Sophie ( this was my one fear about the audible version)! I love how their first interaction in the book comes about and also how she reacts in their next meeting. Chief is alpha, but also is very open with his feelings and beliefs. He was strong and sensitive at the same time and that was perfect for them! The bond that the two have is fantastic and i love love love that Mrs. Stoker took the time to research some Navajo language and traditions. This book was a great addition to the series and i look forward to the next book!

Had some issues but enjoyed it
I didn’t care for the fact that this was a one narrator story. I would have enjoyed a duel or duet narration much more.
Loved that the hero was Native American and that it incorporated some folklore and culture. It did go a little over the top for a book that is otherwise not supposed to be paranormal or fantasy, but I enjoy both so not an issue.
The narrator did a good job with Sophie’s stutter. Sometimes details like that can be lost in narration or be done poorly.
My one big issue with the whole story was Sophie’s too stupid to live moment. Ugh. I hate it when people do stupid stuff in books thinking they are going to be heroic, then end up just causing more trouble. I would have preferred it if she had been a victim of something outside of her control.
I also didn’t care for the end because it abruptly switched focus from the main characters to another couple, and I almost feel like I was cheated out of realizing the main couple’s story was over. The author would have done better to include the start of the other couple’s story in a bonus preview. It had the unfortunate result of turning me off to this author when I should have been able to end this story on a good note and willing to check out other books in the series, but now I likely won’t just because I am annoyed.

Good start, but went downhill towards the end
I really liked 2/3 of this story. Chief and Sophie's building relationship was delightful, although she was so sweet it was a bit sickly at times. However, the supernatural elements didn't work for me. I have no issue with Navaho culture and beliefs and I enjoyed Chief's explanations of his culture and how it shaped him. However, when it started manifesting physically, it didn't work. This series is a romantic fantasy, but it's set in the real world. I couldn't suspend my disbelief and it threw me out of the story.
The narration is excellent and EM does a great job of making Sophie's stutter sound natural.

Loved
I did enjoy listening to Erin Mallon
Sophie has had a crush on the firefighter next door since she moved in but Chief keeps himself to himself and doesn’t really notice Sophie, assuming she has a boyfriend/husband anyway.
Chief overhears a conversation between Sophie and her friends and a misunderstanding follows, once he realises his error he goes to Sophie's place of work and apologises and the two of them start to get to know each other.
Chief grew up on and Indian reservation and Sophie grew up with a stutter that is still part of her life.

Shelter for Sophie
Once again Susan Stoker has outdone herself!! By creating kickass characters she once again reaffirms the message that love conquers all and that everyone deserves to be loved.
I absolutely adored the main characters Sophie and Chief and their frank and open relationship. Stokers creation of Sophie as a heroine who can hold her own but yet at the same time can be vulnerable and exposed with her man is inspiring. How Sophie interacts with those around her both burn victims and the homeless made me love her even more. The glimpses of how the homeless and burn victims live adds another interesting dimension to the story and gives an insight into worlds I had not experienced before. I also loved the insights into the lives of characters we've met previously and cannot wait for Conor + Erin's story!!! Without a doubt a must read!!!

Ms Stoker, you've done it again.
this plot was a little different as it addressed age old culture and one of many ever present life disabilities....(if that's not too harsh a word), that Susan Stoker addresses within the frame of story line and shines light on a person's difficult affliction both mentally and physically, in all her stories, can only be described as genius.
she writes the plot that sometimes, delicately introduces us to the disability but then magically weaves good men with good hearts that see past any of these afflictions and into the heart and mind of the heroine.
thus resulting in our HEA.
I really love the mission plots but am enjoying the alphas fall for their not so prefect women. what disability will Ms Stoker address next?
Erin's is a really popular one in today's day and age and I was going to skip it until I heard what it was.. this one is close to my heart..so bring it on.😊😊😊😊😊
