Amazing

The story was heartbreaking but also beautiful. Susan Stoker has written so many wonderfully awesome books. This finale of this series was so rich in emotions and comradeship I couldn’t stop listening. Erin Mallon is one of my favorite narrators and she did a super job with her inflections and her female/male voices. Well done!

Just Meh.

I disnt hate this book but didnt particularly love it either. Most of the book was focused in Pen getting her head out of her butt and I felt there was just very little content. I get it. Pen suffers from PTSD and I know the struggle is real but is just dragged on. So overall I liked the book but I will probably never read it again.

Good but not great

Susan Stoker is always an automatic download for me but this book didn’t seem to measure up to all her previous books. Having said that I’m still a big fan and have all of her books which I can listen to again and again. Love the stories and all the wonderful characters!

Fight like a girl!

Penelope and Moose have so much to overcome in their story. From Penelope's capture in Turkey to the deaths of White and Black, to her nervous breakdown when Koren was trapped, all caused her to run away from the one person who could help her. But Moose never gave up. He waited for the moment he could show her the depth of his love.
What a great ending to the series!

#TeamPen for life

The long awaited last book in the series. I won’t lie, I held off on reading it because I didn’t want it to end. I love Penelope, she’s been amazing from the start, and Moose, well Moose is just awesomeness. He’s the partner/significant other we all need in our corner.

This story was great, heartwarming, full of drama and inner battles that I don’t think I was expecting. There is a lot more to Pen than meets the eye. Her story of her time in captivity, the pain and guilt she carries with her... my god it was heart wrenching. But with that being said, it made my love and appreciation of her grow. This woman has been through so much, held herself together when a weaker person would have crumbled, that she just wraps herself around your heart and bangs on.

I hope we see more of these characters in other spin offs. They’re all amazing characters and this series be one I reread for years to come!

Always fight like a girl!

Shelter for Penelope is the 15th and final book in the Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes Series. And even though I feel sad that this particular series has ended, I am glad that Susan Stoker, blew shed heart, has given Penelope the closure she dearly deserves.

Throughout the Badge of Honor Series, readers came across Penelope—the spitfire firefighter who stood equal to the men in her unit, the soldier who never backed down from a fight. Until she was kidnapped.

Her story is both haunting and sad. It is heart-wrenching, for both her and Moose, the firefighter who fought to stay by her side teen when Penelope thought she would never get over the traumatic events of her kidnapping.

Most of all, Penelope’s story gives us an insight into how we can overcome even the worst of situations—if we but reach out and accept the fact that we need help.

“True bravery is being scared out of your mind, but doing what needs to be done anyway.”

I love Susan Stoker for reminding us, through Penelope’s eyes that being scared is not a sign of weakness—that it, in fact, allows us to assess ourselves enough to know how we should approach whatever life throws our way.

“It’s not what happens to you that shapes your life—it’s how you deal with it.”

It is knowing when to quit and letting others fight our battles for us.

Penelope took a step forward and rested her forehead in the middle of Ghost’s chest. “I’m tired, Ghost, so damn tired.” “Then stop trying to do everything by your damn self,” he retorted.

And it is knowing that, no matter what happens, it is okay to fight like a girl in a world filled with giants.

“Ass****,” White muttered. “If anyone dares to look at you cross-eyed, Black, you let me or Sarg know and we’ll kick their asses for you.” He turned to Penelope. “Fight like a girl, right, Sarg? You kicked that first-sergeant’s ass and showed him exactly how girls fight.”

Erin Mallon did a fantastic job narrating not just Shelter for Penelope but the whole series, and I am looking forward to hearing her again in other books penned by Susan Stoker!

Another touching story

Susan stokers books have been wonderful. This book spoke to me though. Sometimes I am in my head too much. I forget that other people have problems also. This book was well written and well read. It was a perfect end to this series. Susan stokers books truly take me away to forget about my problems but they also help me think about the world around me these are wonderful and I really really love this one especially. Ok

Very enjoyable

SS has been building up to Moose and Penelope's story for a very long time, and it doesn't quite live up to the build-up. That said, it's still a strong entry in the Texas Heroes series. Moose is absolutely wonderful and Penelope's battle with her PTSD is heartbreaking at times. She's a strong woman, who struggles with survivors guilt after being taken hostage in Iraq and he gives her the combination of support and tough love she needs to face her demons.

all about Penelope

PTSD swallowed the story whole with all, our favourite characters being along side.
it's a devastating subject written smoothly without delving too deep. keeping to the authors format
if you love Penelope then this is a must,.
the best story from her various series I've read is still fiona's story ,,,,just love the mission, the problems and the getting to know you vibe.
