Publisher's summary

Life in a remote fishing village in the middle of a civil war is neither safe nor inspiring. So, when an opportunity comes along for village girl Lynn to be kidnapped and enslaved by Darren, a ruthless pirate queen, she takes full advantage of it. But Darren is neither as ruthless nor as piratical as she appears at first glance--and Lynn's not exactly what she seems to be, either.

In between encounters with old girlfriends, a slow death involving marmalade, and bounty hunters with no sense of humor, Lynn and her new mistress attempt to work out exactly what they are to each other--and who's in charge.

A fabulously fun romp that defies expectations!

I love this book so much!!
First…pirates!!!
Second… seriously fun, funny, smart writing that confounds expectations with every zany plot twist.
Third…protagonists that are so much more than the simple caricatures they initially appear to be. The main characters are complex and contradictory and ultimately absolutely true who they are. Even the villainous characters are intriguingly over the top and seem a natural part of this convoluted world that Lawrence has imagined.
Maybe this book isn’t for those who crave stories with familiar tropes and plots you can guess at by the third paragraph. It’s not your average Lesfic. The writing is sarcastic and dark and silly and sweet. The narration is deadpan and perfect, walking a line between Monty Python and a Coen brothers movie.
I highly recommend!

Couldn’t stop listening…

I loved this book for so many reasons. I honestly didn’t know what was coming around every corner. The characters weren’t cookie cutter. Sometimes status quo is nice, and sometimes I want to be kept guessing.
The writing was good. Funny and sarcastic at times, but not overdone. Some of the story is dark and hard, but essential to the story.
Narrators we’re good, though I’m not sure two were necessary. Sometimes that’s annoying, but not here.
I found this book to be unique and entertaining all the way through.
