Sheldon Majors has always known that he was different. Growing up on a farm in a small, conservative town, he faced the harsh realities of being different—especially when it comes to his sexuality. In the first installment of the Sheldon Majors series, Sheldon navigates the turbulent waters of adolescence, dealing with bullies, family dynamics, and his first love, all while coming to terms with who he truly is.

In the midst of small-town drama, Sheldon encounters Chase, a new arrival from Los Angeles, who quickly becomes the object of his unspoken desires. As their paths cross more frequently, Sheldon is forced to confront his feelings and the truth about his identity. Alongside new friendships, particularly with Ruby Nash and her cousin Ninnie, Sheldon begins to find his place in a world that often feels hostile.

The story unfolds with a mix of coming-of-age themes, tension-filled encounters, and moments of tender self-discovery. From clandestine swimming lessons with Chase to facing the school bully, Laramie, Sheldon learns to stand up for himself and embrace his true nature. As their time in school progresses, secrets are revealed, friendships are tested, and love blossoms in unexpected places.

In this powerful debut, the Sheldon Majors series begins with a poignant exploration of identity, resilience, and the journey to self-acceptance, set against the backdrop of small-town America. This is more than just a story about being gay; it's a universal tale of discovering who you are in the face of adversity.

This book really delivered on storyline and character building by weaving in humor and kindness while highlighting the “crazy” family dynamics and evolving friendships, for teenagers, in a small town atmosphere.

I fell in love with both the main and supporting characters. Especially the strong female characters that are loud, proud, and unapologetic. The way “life in a small town” is creatively brought to life took me back to my own childhood.

Sheldon’s character doesn’t always “get it right” but his honest approach and willingness to learn from his mistakes, is refreshing.

I strongly recommend this book for anyone struggling with their identity or supporting a family/friend who identifies as LGBTQ+. Knowing that how we “show up” for each other evolves as we grow.

I have already read the 2nd book in this series and cannot wait for the audio version to release!!! The accents the voice actor uses was very entertaining!

This series is a must read/listen

A decent coming of age drama that tells the story of a fish out of water queer boy in small, Midwestern America, as he experienced first love and finding acceptance.

A twisty, turned coming of age drama

There is absolutely nothing here to recommend or anything to point to and say why it’s not worth a credit. It just feels like a book you have to read because it’s an English class assignment.
