Shattered Dreams was a lengthy listen but well worth the time. The story had so many plot twists and turns that I was never sure who the murderer was until almost the end. Murder, romance, revenge - this one has it all! I enjoyed the story and the narrator did a nice job as well. I would recommend this.

Unexpected

The storyline was intriguing - husband and wife enjoying a romantic cruise on their sailboat in an attempt to reignite their flame. Wife wakes up covered in blood, husband missing and no memory of the night before...throw in the estranged twin sister and a ton of mistresses and you've got yourself a mystery! A mystery which wraps up with an unexpected ending!

For me, the narration made this story difficult to follow. The monotone reading style found me drifting off with distractions often. Which was unfortunate because, as with many mysteries, I'm sure there were little clues along the way that I daydreamed through. I have listened to works by Carol before and have not been disappointed. I guess this story and narration just didn't fit for me.

This author and narrator were new to me. I loved the story but it was hard to decipher between the characters sometimes. I was given a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Mystery and Romance

The author and narrator were new to me. I really enjoyed all of the twists and turns of this book. Both the author and narrator are very talented, but it was difficult to hear the differences of the various characters when listening to this book. I think the performance would have been better if there were 2 narrators for this particular book. I would listen to more books by either/both the author or narrator in the future. Sandy Lloyd has done a bang-up job in keeping the clues intertwined enough that at any given time, several people could be the killer. Kept me guessing through most of the book, although I did pickup on foreshadowing moments that I wasn't completely surprised. I think the book was a little long inboxed the knitting and short in the unraveling. The climax seemed rushed considering the length of the book. It was a good book, nonetheless. Enjoyed it very much. There were actually two romances but only one could be detailed because the other has a suspect involved.

The title doesn't fit, IMHO. Claire didn't have any shattered dreams. She was pretty accepting of her life. Actually any shattered parts became whole.

Carol Dines does an outstanding job for both male and female vocals. Not once did I wince over a poor rendition.

I'll lift up two thumbs for Shattered Dreams.

While to true villain becomes evident before the author does the reveal. The author does a good job holding the readers attention.

Interesting plot twists.

I listened to this about a week ago, and what I remember most clearly is wanting to shake the many women who inexplicably fell for Claire's lying, cheating, thieving husband. So many suspects... The killer, however, does not act for the usual motives, which keeps the listener guessing.
