Story
Being accepted into an elite school of magic, monsters, and assassins was not my idea of higher education. But here I am, fighting my way through the Culling Trials to claim my right to be taught. As if the gauntlet-type physical and mental tests aren’t enough, people are going missing. People who are my friends. In a dangerous world where no one is as they seem, the golden rule is simple: Trust no one. They think we should just look out for ourselves. That we should leave the fallen behind and ask no questions. They clearly think we’re idiots.

I’m still just Alli, a.k.a. the half-human orphan fae, but my life is looking up for the first time. It only took me my whole 24 years. But when Underhill - the ancestral home of the fae - shatters, making it impossible for any fae to enter, I’m the only one who knows who did it. A secret that will be the death of me if I do nothing.

Story
"Happily Ever After" wasn't supposed to come with a do-over option. But when my husband of 20 years packs up and heads for greener pastures, and my son heads away to college, that's exactly what my midlife becomes. A do-over. This time, though, I plan to do things differently. Age is just a number, after all, and at 40 I'm ready to carve my own path. Eager for a fresh start, I make a somewhat unorthodox decision and move to a tiny town in the Sierra foothills.

Story
One day, I’m married, living in Seattle, and magic isn’t real. The next, I’m divorced and living in the guest room of my ex’s hotter-than-sin cousin’s place in Savannah and talking to an animated skeleton named Robert. I have to admit, Robert isn’t my worst date. At 41, I didn’t think I’d be starting over. But I’ll be damned if my ex thinks I’m down and out because he pulled a fast one on me. When a job comes my way that offers me a chance to use my childhood training in the shadow world, I take it.

Supernatural Bounty Hunter isn't the sort of thing you see on LinkedIn. But with a rare type of magic like mine, I don't have many options. Dangerous or not, the job is mine. I knew the sins of my past would call to collect what was left of my soul. If I'd known the price I'd pay, I would've sacrificed more to stay hidden from the magic. In the middle of Wyoming - away from the abnormals of the world - I thought I was free and clear. I started a new life. Found a love I'd never known in a husband, and a son who was my everything. The Witch's Reign...a land of unnatural hellish cold ruled over by the Ice Witch herself, who is in turn guarded by three creatures - Wolf, Bear, and Raven. Those lovely beasts derive their power directly from their mistress and just happen to kill any who cross their paths. To get there, you first must pass through the Dragon's Ground. Full of, you guessed it, dragons who for the record, also do not like trespassers. Sounds like a fun place to go, doesn't it? Yeah, not so much.

Some people are ordained for greatness. Those people usually have a lot of drama in their life. Drama I happily do without. I live in a forgotten corner of nowhere for a reason: there is safety in anonymity. I have enough problems just trying to get by. But when Kieran, a sinfully sexy demigod at the pinnacle of power, crashes into my life, suddenly my whole world is turned upside down. He’s harboring a deadly secret, one that could destroy all he holds dear. He thinks I’m the key to his salvation, and he wants me to help him claim vengeance. He also wants me with a passion.

My name is Leah, and I am a Cazador. Trained to hunt and kill vampires over 300 years ago, my training became essential once I became one of those monsters. The underbelly of the supernatural world has begun to bleed into the human world, and journalist Rachel Sambrook is asking too many dangerous questions. Unwittingly, she's revealed a conspiracy I had hoped would never become a reality: using vampire blood for human experiments. As I attempt to contain her, she's by my side, and the truth of just how deep the darkness goes is exposed.

Publisher's Summary
You don’t choose the academy. The academy chooses you.
I had no idea how those words would change my life. Or how they’d changed my life already...until the day the most dangerous man I’ve ever met waltzed onto my farm and left us a death sentence. In an invitation.
My younger brother has been chosen for the prestigious, secret magical school hidden within the folds of our mundane world. A place so dangerous, they don’t guarantee you’ll make it out alive.
If he doesn't go, our entire family will be killed. It’s the same invitation my older brother received three years ago - the same place where he mysteriously died.
The academy has already killed one sibling. I’ll be damned if they take another. I do the only thing an older sister can: chop off my hair, strap on two bras to flatten the girls, and take my brother’s place.
Magic and monsters are real. Assassins are coming for me, and the dead are prone to rise. What’s a girl faking it as a boy supposed to do? That’s right - beat the academy at its own game. Or die trying.
Praise for the book:
"This book is Harry Potter meets the Hunger Games in a bold twist on a classic magical young adult adventure." (Jaymin Eve, best-selling author of Supernatural Academy series)

Good but...
This is not a book. It is a part of one and should not be so expensive to purchase. A decent book, in my opinion, is at least 10 hours long. I am an avid listener/reader and while I was intrigued 🤔 by the storyline it ended in the middle at what would still be in the rising action of a plot., no climax, no resolution. We have to purchase the remaing 2 short stories to get the actual book 👎. This was a ripoff for the buyer. Too bad I will never hear the end of the story. Also it has many dropped words from sentences and dialogue.

Why isn’t this “series” bundled?
This “book” is good, but doesn’t really have the full length plot of a novel. At barely 5 hours long, it feels like this is one book split in 3rds instead of 3 different books. I don’t feel like I read a book, it feels like a short story. It was good, but not worth the credit

Great beginning
Ah hell, another series I’m going to be addicted to! Another freaking awesome & wickedly addictive story by two of my favorite Indie authors! I love Wilde! She’s a strong willed and charismatic heroine who has some very impressive skills & her rag tag crew are quite interesting in their own right. This is a nice start to a new series but I’ll be honest, I wished it was longer and I could definitely do without the cliffhanger! The narrator did a fantastic job!

I’m hooked...
K.F. Breene and Shannon Meyer have created a whole new world that is both original and addictive. By the time I was half way through this book/audiobook, I had to stop listening long enough to buy Books 2 and 3. Khristine Hyam’s performance not only brought it to life but makes you feel as though you are there actually watching it all unfold. I highly recommend this to science fiction and fantasy fans. Now excuse me, I have to start Book 2.

Wilde is wild!
I knew this series would be good because the authors are both fabulous story tellers but I’m not usually into YA. Again, with these two authors behind it I had to dive in and I’m so glad I did.
I love Wilde. When a summons is left for her little brother, one threatening her entire family of he doesn’t show up for The Culling Trials there is no way in hades she’s letting him go. Her older brother left for the trials and never returned.
So now with her hair chopped off, her body wrapped to look like her brother she sets off. She’s a girl on a mission, one that will save her family, possibly put her own life in peril and hopefully end with her in the top of a magical academy. The problem is, she has no idea that magic is real. No idea how this new world she’s thrust into works nor does she understand what is really going on around her.
It’s almost like a bad day dream that she can’t get out of. With a band of misfits along side her she enters the first trial and prays she can get through it in one piece. She can’t fail her family nor can she fail the new friends that have sort of adopted her.
The Culling Trials are a mix of wonder and chaos. The Hunger Games meets The Maze Runner with a side of Harry Potter and The vampire Academy. So I’m other words, an epic read that has left me wanting more.

This book reminds of the hunger games, it's a fast paced adventure that is full of thrills and danger. The plot is well written and character specially Wild (mc) is well flesh out. I've read this series but I want to get another prospective of the story from an Audio book point of view and I'm not disappointed it's totally awesome thanks to Khristine Hvam.

Solid story, as advertised.
I liked this book a lot. I would have given it 5 stars, but it is a little short...
