“Action, drama, desire, revenge: Shadow Music includes all the necessary ingredients for romantics to plunge into the moors, mountains and magical myth of medieval Scotland.”—The Roanoke Times

Prized for her exquisite beauty, Princess Gabrielle of St. Biel, the daughter of one of England’s most influential barons, is a perfect bargaining chip for a king who needs peace in the Highlands: King John has arranged Gabrielle’s marriage to a good and gentle laird. But this marriage will never take place.

Upon her arrival in Scotland, Gabrielle is immediately entangled in Highland intrigue, as a battle royal flares between enemies old and new. For two sadistic noblemen, underestimating Gabrielle’s bravery and prowess may prove fatal. Colm MacHugh, the most feared man in Scotland, makes no such mistakes about the captivating princess. Under his penetrating gaze, neither Gabrielle’s body nor her heart is safe.

“No one does historical romance better than Garwood. . . . Gabrielle is an enchanting heroine.”—The State (Columbia, S.C.)

The book was long....it kept going on and on and on. I was expecting something as witty and funny as The Bride, but it was not even close. Even with Rosalyn Landor reading, it still became a chore after a while. I can't say I would not recommend it...I can say it is something to get used to.

It Was long

This type of book is not my favorite genre so I don't normally purchase them. But I'm so thrilled it was on sale because it kept my attention and I listened to it in two days. Usually, I find too often this genre is heavy-breathing, bodice-ripping stories with no real story, or believable characters. This book was an exception among the books of this vein that I have read. it was fast paced, had characters that were likable and plenty of villains, like King John, love, suspense, honor, treachery, etc.
Because I enjoyed it so much I will be looking at more books by Julie Garwood. And Ms. Landor was a splendid narrator. I'm sad to leave these characters behind.

Such a good, sweet story

Would you consider the audio edition of Shadow Music to be better than the print version?

I didn't read the hard copy.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Liam. He was fun and personable.

Which character – as performed by Rosalyn Landor – was your favorite?

No one stood out.

Any additional comments?

I would have liked to have listened to Susan Duerden finish this series. I enjoy Rosalyn Landor but she is more of a calm reader and is better at portraying British Ton than wild Highlanders. Susan Duerden was much more lively and portrayed them with more feistiness. Overall, the story was fine. I agree with another person that it was kind of a lame love story between the 2 main characters.
