good solid story, but I don't see a future for the Sheriff

Small group of characters in a small town coming together to stop commies from detonating a nuclear bomb. Tension between Sheriff, FBI. and Chinese resolves in the end.

Best to read 1st book before this one

Sheriff Porter Beck and his sister and friends are back in an even more dangerous and convoluted plot. I loved this book and want more!

Sheriff Beck is back and strong as ever

I loved the complexity of the characters. I was pulled into the storyline and surprised a few times by the twists. Great read. Looking forward to the next Book.

Another great who dunnit mystery

Love that he maintained characters from his 1st book, The Bitter Past. Small town large county western U. S., Sheriff Beck is one of those stand out characters like Reacher is in the Lee Child books. He always gets his man, you just don't know how. Fast moving, yet detailed well developed characters you grow to love. Some 3 letter Federal agencies and foreign bad guys make the mix intriguing. Learn how an $80,000 prize bull being blown up leads Beck to think there's something more to his childhood friend's ranch. Happy reading!

Entertaining Listen

Second offering in the series brings nothing new about our main character, but still provides an interesting, intelligent plot. However, I would like to know Sheriff Beck a little better...
Narration suites the story well.

Love everything about this book

Great characters and story. The author has gotten only better from his first novel. Only criticism is that some of the editing seemed a bit off regarding the non linear parts of the story. I can’t wait for the ne t book !!!

Hooked!

Great characters. Many twists. Love the story line. Just as good as the first one. Now I’m on the hook for the next one!

Story Complicated

Great performance of a complex story line with too many characters. Also too many plot twists.

I had high expectations after the strong first book, this one was unfortunately disappointing.

Borgos is a talented writer, but he pretty much succumbed to the woke zeitgeist in this second one. The characters were certainly diverse, but they were also boring and they completed a story was uninspired, not thrilling, and unfortunately unentertaining.
